Surnames: Sebire
Could another spelling be Sebire?
A number of people by the name Sebire arrived ib Australia from Guernsey in the 19th century:

1850 on Maitland to Melbourne - Henry 21. b.13 Aug 1828 St Sampson, Guernsey, s/o John (Jean) Sebire & Judith Torode.

1853 on Countess of Elgin to Melbourne - brothers Daniel 19, James 19 & Peter 18. Twins b. 28 Apr 1833 St Sampson, Guernsey, s/o Daniel Sebire & Elizabeth Roussel. Their sister Betsey Le Page nee Sebire arrived on the Joshua in 1852 and their brothers Henry 17 and Joshua 16 arrived on the Evening Star in 1854.

1854 on Evening Star to Melbourne - John (Jean) age 23 of St Sampson, Guernsey.

1857 on ? to Melbourne - William Joseph 16 b. 18 Feb 1841 St Sampson, Guernsey s/o John (Jean) Sebire & Judith Torode.

If any of these people are the ones you are looking for then let me know. There is more information on them in the book 'Guernsey Emmigrants to Australia 1828-1899'

Diane

Thank you for your reply. This my first try at message boards.

I have been aware of the Guernsey SIBIRE for some time but so far have not found any connection.

Your list is a little late as the group I am looking into went to Austraia in the fitst wave late 1700 to early 1800's. The first wave came from Merton in Surrey or London.

So do you have anyone who went to England. I have found some SIBREE in France and Belgium 1600's.

Regards Cheers
Roger

Hi Roger,
Going on your dates of late 1700's to early 1800 you need to look in NSW (New South Wales, Australia)
If you google NSW BDM and search for your name variations you will find some records.
example...
Births/Baptisms
V18174359 1B/1817 SIBREE JOSEPH (f)JOSEPH (m)SARAH
V18184662 1B/1818 SIBREE REUBEN (f)THOMAS (m)SARAH

Also google NSW State Records and use 'keyname search' PLUS go to Indexes Online and check our Colonial Secretary Records.

TROVE (nla newspapers) could have notices for them.
