I think this my be my John Hawkins. The only one I have found in my researsh born in 1787. I found him living in the same community as my greatgreatgreatgrandparents, John D. Hawkins and Mary Oliver Hawkins. In the 1860 Trigg Co. KY census John was listed as age 73, which makes his birth year 1787. He was a tollgate keeper. That's not much information but maybe it will help. Jean

Benjamin Hawkins (Jr) was the son of my ancestork Benjamin Hawkins, for whom I have been unable to find birthplace or parents, but he died in 1745, which made his son the head of the family. Benjamin's (Sr) wife was named Elizabeth, Ihave no maiden name for her. Benjamin had to give his sisters away when they married:Milly in 1749 to Richard Burke, and Edith to Thomas Wright. The youngest son, John, was an infant when his father died. Milly and Thomas took him to the Blue Ridge region when they moved c 1760. Benjamin, Jr. also went; he and John both fought in the Revolution. John married Elizabeth Dickinson and settled in Washington Co., VA, where he is buried at Mendota. I am descended from John's oldest son, Philip.

Our information is nearly the same. Benjamin Sr. who died in 1744/1745 married to Elizabeth Unknown - another source says his wife was a Mary Wade. Both list same children except for John. I have the same dates and names of the sisters marriages, again from several different sources, none are the same. I have never heard of Benjamin Jr. fighting in the Revolution. I have a copy of his will dated May 2, 1777. I would like to compare notes with you and see where we have the same information and check to clarify any other material.
I think we have been in contact before, but I have a hard time keeping up with who I make contact with about which ancestor.
Let me hear from you,
Sara Powell

Hi, Sara. I have a lot of great information on your Hawkins family. It's a long way-cool story how I got it. I need to scan it and send you what I have, then get it into some sort of posting order. I'm searching Hawkins to try to get back to Sir John Hawkins, 1500s England, because he was a relative of Sir Francis Drake who is unquestionably my umptieth great uncle, and the thing that intrigues me so is that I was adopted into a Hawkins line subset--Hawkins, Gilliam, Gregory.

I've only today gotten back on line after a LONG absence and I'm ecstatic, and particularly to find your posting. I hope you check your message board some time soon, or that this goes direct to your e-mail. I found a half-sister on a Cawthon (my biological family--Drake/Hawkins connection) board, and it was months before I heard from her, because she hadn't been checking her message somehow.

I see that I can send attachments. When I hear from you, I'll send you a copy of my pack.

I'm so delighted! I'm all goose-bumpy!

I can't believe you found my message!! This is wonderful and I really look forward to receiving your packet. I have been working on my line for only about a year and a half and at times I thought I may be the only descendent!! Its great to know there are more out there.
When I get your material, I will see what I have that you don't and sent it to you so check you messages too.
Thanks for contacting me.
