Anyone having trouble installing Family Tree Maker 2014 on their computer?

First the update wouldn't install but the ancestry tech helped by sending me an email to download it differently and it worked. Now when I start the program it stops working. Ancestry techs have been sending me emails for four days telling me to try different things to keep it from freezing, but nothing is working. HELP

After you start FTM at what point does it stop working? Do you get some kind of message as to why it is not working?

Thanks Curmil,

FTM stops running at the registration page, before I can even register. The message states Family Tree Maker has stopped running Microsoft will close program and let you know if there is a solution. Not sure of the exact words, but Microsoft never has a solution .

The problem is probably with FTM, not Microsoft. Try to start it again and write down the exact wording of the message. If, when, you talk to FTM support they will want this information. The Ancestry/FTM help number is 1-800-262-3787.

Are you an ancestry.com subscriber (or Fold 3 or newspapers?)

FTM does not need to be registered to work, nor does it need to be online.

Ancestry only allows one computer to be logged into ancestry at a time. Do you have other devices logged in (laptop, other computer, etc?) If so, Log out (not just close the tab).

Can you go to File > Go Offline and start a new FTM file with one person in it? Exit and bring it up again? If so, after bringing it back up, try to go to File > Go Online.

Can you access your ancestry account with the same computer through a web browser?

If you still haven't been successful after trying the above, try their 800 number. Support isn't good with all things, but they are generally good at getting folks online and up and running.
