Looking for Porter Moore who served in the Civil War. He enlisted in Oregon Co. Missouri. He was enlisted in the 9th and 12th Misouri's Infantry.
My g-grandfather was P. L. Moore and he enlisted in Ripley County, Missouri as a private.
Years ago, a tombstone was requested for my ggfather, and he was sent one with Porter Moore's information on it.
I am very interested in sorting this out and possible returning the tombstone to the man to whom it belongs.

Are you sure they weren't the same person? Oregon and Ripley are adjoining counties.

When you click on link for the 12th it states it was "also called 3rd" and lists action in Arkansas and Louisiana.

Both were Confederate units and if not the same, he may have served in both.

I don't find either a P. L. or Porter Moore in 1860 census southern Mo.

They may be able to confirm whether Porter and P. L. were the same or different veterans.

Thanks for trying to help. I believe my ggrandfather was in the militia and therefore would not have been eligible for a marker. I think my only hope would be to find descendants of Porter Moore who might have some follow-up on him.
If you have time, I would appreciate any help you could give. My ggrandfather's full name was Powhatan Lefridge Moore. He is listed in the 1860 census in Pike Co. Mo.

Your best bet to identify Porter Moore would be the Mo. Civil War link I posted.

It's odd that he's listed by the National Archives but does not seem to be in the Missouri Archives list, any spelling.
