Does anyone live in or nearBroken Hill? My great grandfather is buried in the broken hill cometary and would like a photo of his grave. Could anyone help?
Not sure if this is him as states he was single?
Barrier Miner, Wednesday 23 December 1936
DEATH OF MR. PETER KEOGH
The death occurred at the Broken Hill and District Hospital today of Mr. Peter Keogh, aged about 69. Mr. Keogh, who was born in Ireland, came to Australia as a child.
He enlisted and served at the Boer War and also in the Great War. Since the Great War he has been employed along the line of lode, and up to the time of his death was employed at the Central Mine. Mr. Keogh was single.
His funeral will leave the Federal Palace Hotel, Bromide-street, at ll a.m. to-morrow under the direction of Tom J. Mallon.
No family attended his funeral. Full name given as Peter Henry KEOGH in probate notice (he died intestate).
There was another Peter Henry KEOGH in Tasmania, also a miner; he served in WWI and was 37 in 1915. He was born in New York, USA. Interestingly, there was a Peter KEOGH who enlisted in Tasmania in the Boer War...bit confusing!
Hi there, Yes article is about my great grand father. He was divorced from my great grandmother and I suppose considered single. The two Peter Keoghs you talk about are one in the same. Not sure what state he died in or how he died. He was buried at the Broken Hill cemetary as a pauper though. Looking for someone to take a photo of his grave for me. Thanks for writing. Regards Jenine
Hi there, yes that is correct details for my great grandfather
He died at Broken Hill Hospital according to the article.
I wonder was he born in the USA (enlistment) or in Ireland (obituary)?
PS As a pauper's burial I doubt there is a headstone marking the grave.
BROKEN HILL Cemetery would be able to advise whether or not there would be a headstone; he was recorded as being a pauper so doubtful there would be a headstone.
The image for the CLYDE immigration entry has Peter born U.S.A.

Hi there, yes conflicting records. Ill contact cemetary and ask if there is a headstone so well know one way or another. Thanks for your help
Good sleuthing there by deeess. Julia & Joseph had another son, Paul, in Sydney in 1882.
I suspect the death of a Julia KEOGH in 1883 is the mum and that would explain why the children ended up in a children's home (except eldest Mary, who may have been working by this time, and baby Paul, probably farmed out to a wet nurse). Her parents are stated as Thomas and Mary (reg 289), which fits children's names. This death cert may reveal some clues such as her birthplace and mother's full name.
(The one in 1885 was wife of Anthony, from funeral notice). To add to the confusion there was also a Matthew KEOGH with wife Julia, though a bit later in NSW!
