Surnames: Owen
I'm looking for information on Robert Glen Owen (my great-grandfather). Not much is known, other than he enlisted in the army in 1942 (Jefferson Barracks), and had two daughters with Joyce Bernadine Owen (Ward), both born in the late 1940's, in Des Moines, Iowa. I also know his father's name was Homer, and his mother was Leona (he also had a sister, Dorothy, and a brother, Kenneth).

I've managed to track a few census records, but not enough to help me put together the missing pieces of my family history. I'm specifically looking for any information as to when he passed away, and more importantly, if he ever remarried and had more children.

Any help would be greatly appreciated!

I’m not related to any member of this family.

1940 is the last available census at this time.

NEED DOB + birthplace for Joyce Ward.

Robert Owen does not appear on the SSDI; therefore it's assumed he died before the SSDI was computerized in the 1960's.

Thank you for taking the time to look! As far as Joyce (my great-grandmother) goes, I have all the info I need on her. What isn't known is anything about Robert (I don't even have an exact DOB for him, nor do I know when he died, that is, IF he died...).

I do already have the enlistment records on Robert, as well as the census records for 1920, 1930, and 1940. I'm *assuming* that Robert and Joyce married after meeting in the army (Joyce served as a nurse during WWII), though I don't know if they married in Missouri, Arkansas (where Joyce is from), or Iowa. After the enlistment record dated June 1942, there is no other information on him.

I'm beginning to think he may possibly have passed away anywhere between 1948 and 1950, because Joyce remarried and had another daughter in 1951.

Social Security was computerized in the early 60's so if he's not on the list then your assumption abt his death may be correct.

It's just strange that I can find NO record of him after 1942. No record of his marriage to Joyce, no birth announcements for either of his daughters, no obituary, nothing. The eldest was born in September 1946, and his second daughter was born in January 1948.

No, it's not strange at all.
The time period you are seeking information for is too recent.

Many state have restrictions on access to birth & death records. Restrictions are for privacy as well as stopping ID-theft.

You will need to know the daughter's married name.

DO NOT SEARCH FOR A MARRIED WOMAN USING HER MAIDEN NAME.

The children may be living.

Many ppl don't want an obit published.

I have both daughters names. Out of respect for my living grandmother, I choose not to publicly post her name. The younger of the two daughters passed away in 2003, and Joyce passed away in 1992.

Also, I got his name and where he was born from my grandmother, though that was all she knew.
