I dont have much to help but found this:

History of Monroe County Wisconsin 1912
page 764 (Bio of Thomas R. King)
Henry Nichols, the maternal grandfather of Mr. King, left the Empire state and came to Wisconsin early in 1854, and also entered a government claim of 160 acres, and later added to this claim additional land by purchase, which he owned at the time of his death about twenty-five years ago. His wife, the maternal grandmother of our subject, was Mary O. Stearns, who is still living at the age of eight-one years, and her superior qualities of mind and heart attract to her the admiration of her many friends.

Thomas H. King was the son of George E. and Helen E. (Nichols) King. There is more info on Nichols if you want me to transcribe and send. Will check my other Monroe Co books as well.

The late John Ingles Jr. compiled "The Desendants of Daniel L. Nichols" b ca 1800 NY and wife
Eunice Merryfield. She was the dau of Richard
Merrifield and Sophina Merryfield [sic] and step-
dau of Moses Jewell. Lived Orangeville, Wyoming Co., NY; Cattaraugus Co., NY; Sparta, Monroe Co., WI. See Merryfield forum for important War of
1812 material on Richard. It is too long to copy. This book is out of print but is available on microfilm at LDS Family History Centers. Eunice (sp Unice in Richard's will) buried at
Sparta; Daniel L.'s resting place has not been found. My 2GGparents. Early Monroe Co. WI history mistakenly calls her "Mayfield."

You might go to the genforum link above and contact person who made the post.

Henry and Mary Nichols are buried in the Farmers Valley cemetery, Sparta, WI --I "witched" their burial plot and found another adult male buried there. I feel certain it is Daniel but have been unable to find any corroberating evidence of that. In my research I did not find Daniel on the 1870 census yet I found documentation that he had sold land to William Green (Sophia (Nichols) Kidney's second husband) in 1877 for $1.00 and his keep for his remaining life. Eunice Nichols is buried in the Leon cemetery (I recently restored her broken gravestone) I have a documented timeline for Daniel I could email you.

Dear Ralph. I have been catching up on my research and came across your response to Mr. Nichols. I am the gg granddaughter of Jeddie. I would LOVE a couple of the documented time line since Daniel Nichols from NY. I have heard through the grapevine that when Daniel was a child his family was raided by Indians and he was taken captive. Any truth to this? Do you have any additional information? THANK YOU!!! teresa Ps. If you know Harold Gahler, please say HI to him. Haven't seen him forever!

Sorry I didn't get back to you sooner.

First of all, may I inquire as to whom is asking for the information? And yes, I am off on the Russell Thomas Hiles line. He was my grandfather. I've done extensive research on the Wisconsin Hiles and may be able to help you.

You have the surviving children (minus one)listed. There were quite a few more who didn't survive to adulthood.

With respect, t.
