My fellow researchers

The SS Marine Tiger was built in 1945 by the Kaiser Co. Inc. in Vancouver,
Washington. Originally planed as a passenger ship but, because of the war,
she was converted to a troop transport

Some time in early 1946 she was converted back to a passenger ship. From then
on the SS Marine Tiger would play a major rule in the Puerto Rican migration
to Nueva York

On June 24, 1946 she sailed from San Juan, Puerto Rico with 929 passengers
and arrived in Nueva Yorl on June 28, 1946 with 931. The names of 2 stowaways
were added to the passenger manifest. They were removed to Ellis Island. For
the record, Dalia and I have agreed that they will remain nameless.

As of this writing, I have reason to believe that this was its maiden Voyage
on the San Juan to New York run.

Now, Dalia Morales and I, would like to invite you to meet the Pasajeros a
Nueva York as they disembark from the SS Marine Tiger

Please go to the following table of contents and click on Pasajeros a Nueva
York.

Thank you for posting these manifests. I was helping my son research his family history for a heritage project at school, when we decided to research the Marine Tiger. We knew his grandfather had traveled to NY on that ship, but were not sure when. His grandfather, my father-in-law, William Castro passed away in January. Finding his name on the manifest for July 25-29 was such a wonderful surprise. What a beautiful gift for my husband and my sons, my mother and sisters-in-law, and nieces and nephews. You've inspired me to research my family history some more.Thank you!

If someone knows how I can obtain the manifest of Puerto Ricans that traveled from Puerto Rico to New York, please respond. I would greatly appreciated. My father came from Puerto Rico to New York in 1947 on the S.S. Marine Tiger. I would like to know how to begin my search. My e-mail is the following: efalcon26@aol.com

What is your father's name?, or you can look for him yourself in Ancestry.com or visit the National Archives.
You can also search for him in the site referenced in the original posting. If you are going to give me his name, please include his birthday and town of birth. The SS Marine Tiger made about 12 trips to New York from Puerto Rico. all will be found at the following site.

I recently saw your information on the web. As I understand the Marine Tiger also transported immigrants to Halifax, Canada from Bremerhaven, Germany in 1948. My step-mother and her son immigrated to Canada in 1948. I have been trying to find the ship's passenger manifests for that year (1948). Could you direct me to where I can see the passenger lists for the Marine Tiger for other years and sailings?

Thanks in advance.

Regards, Gary Vliet

Hola Ariel, my name is Maria Mercedes Ortega Rivera and I am the daughter of Marino Rivera who sailed on the SS Marine Tiger on August 9, 1946. I found him in the manifest however, he was listed as single, and his birthdate was listed as April 3, 1925. My dad was married when he left Puerto Rico, and his birthdate is: March 3, 1925. Please correct it. Thank you very much for all the work you are doing to bring us a little closer to our family history. My parents often told us the story of daddy leaving Puerto Rico to start a new life after he finished in the Army and then sent for my mom. He was met in NY by his dad, Jose Rivera and his brother, Jose Rivera too. I am doing a project for my wall and want to hang a picture of the SS Marine Tiger and a plaque with dad's information. Hoping to hear from you soon, I remain,

Very truly yours,

Maria Mercedes Ortega Rivera
