Can anyone provide an answer as to why there are various "clans" of Fontenot's? Also, what are the names of the clans and how did the terminology come into being?

I have heard of one family referred to as (pardon the spelling) the "Shadolot" clan. Does anyone know what this term means?

Thanks for the information about the reunion. My most immediate Fontenot ancestors settled around Pine Prairie. My grandmother Fontenot married a Henry, whose mother was Susan Cole, probably from Allen Parish.

Hi Sharon, I don't have the specific date of the reunion yet but hope to have it next week. I have requested a letter and the names of the people who are in charge of putting this together. I will be glad to let you know when I receive this information. Karen

Mr. Grobsky, I am also trying to find out all of the "clans" belonging to the Fontenot's. My maternal grandmother was a Fontenot. I've been told that the Fontenot family is so vast that they had to start dividing them into clans before moving from Fort Toulousse, Alabama or Mobile, Alabama. Sometime in Sept. or Oct. of this year there will be a Fontenot family reunion held at the Civic Center in Ville, Platte, La. A genealogist will attend to guide relatives in the "clans". I hope to have news shortly. Karen

I am also related to the Frusha/Fruge and Marcantel families in South and East LA. My grandmother was Alzena Frusha. She married Burrell Anderson Cooley and they lived near Singer, LA. They are buried in Newlin Cemetary in Beauregard Parish. Glad to share info. Email me. Thanks
