I am trying to find information about my maternal grandfather who was born sometime around 1884 in either the Isle of Man or Yorkshire. His name was James Ayrton and he was living in London between 1915 and 1930 or at least not far away.
I have found a James Ayrton on the 1891-1892 census aged 10 born in Settle, North Yorkshire. I am trying to find the connection between the Ayrtons & the Donoghue's. According to church records the Donoghue's were buried with Ayrton's & Bradley's and I know the relationship to the Bradley's but not the Ayrton family.
I have been looking for a James Ayrton born around that time who may be my grandfather. He was quite a bit older than my grandmother who was Frances Kate Seager born 22/12/1894
Her James Ayrton was employed at Euston Station in London
But his son, my uncle (my mothers' brother) always said he came from Yorkshire. He disappeared when my mother was about 6 and she never saw him again. This would have been about 1930. My mum thinks he had another family but my grandmother would never talk about it. I have always wanted to know if their are 1/2 brothers and sisters to my mother somewhere. Funnily enogh I married an Irishman -- full circle!!
I would love to know more about your family.

Your story is very similar to mine only my Great grandfather was William Donoghue and felt my G.G. Mother in the 1920's & I've no idea where he went because he wasn't spoke about.
