I am a great great grandson of William Clayton Lutes. I and other relatives have a good deal of Lutes geneaology from 1700's to present we'd love to share. I am particularly interested in records related to the Civil War service of William Clayton and his brothers (Buford, Frank, "Doc", ??). I'm not sure how much info I have on Frank, but will check into this. There was a Corporal Franklin W. Lutes (related?), Company D, 11th N.Y. Infantry, who was awarded the Medal of Honor April 3, 1865 for "Capture of flag of 41st Alabama Infantry, together with the color bearer and one of the color guard."

I will share the cival war pension record of William Clayton Lutes with you. I also have a picture of him. I am in Florida vacationing until May, but I will be happy to send what I have when I return. I would like copies of your information also. My descent is from William's son John N. Lutes. John was a child from William's first marriage to Sirilda Thompson. I would be happy to share what information I have on William. Are you interested in copies of my information on the Lutes family.? Have you been in contact with others researching the Lutes?

I would love to receive a copy of the picture of W.C. Lutes. I will share with you everything I have. My descent is from William's sone Elhanon Scott Lutes, Elhanon's son John Dewey Lutes, Sr., and my father John Dewey Lutes Jr. My grandfather's brother Willie did a great deal of Lutes genealogical research in the 1960's, including numerous trips to the Lutes farmstead in Beattyville. He spent much time with Lutes' descendants there, and recorded a wealth of oral family history, all of which is encapsulated in letters he wrote to my grandfather, the originals of which I posess. These include quite detailed biographical sketches of numerous Lutes, Botners, Manns, photographs of many of them, photos of headstones from local Lutes cemetaries, the homestead and family articfacts, etc. Since I only recently received my granfather's papers, I will need a little time to sort through it all and make copies, etc. A particularly interesting photo I have, which my granfather always had hanging above his bed, is of "Doctor" Elias Botner and his Indian wife "Matilda". This now hangs in my home, and I'll send you a copy along with other materials. If you would like to call me sometime, my home phone number in Vermont is 802-485-8406. I'm writing to you from the law firm in Montpelier at which I work. Thanks for the reply, and I look forward to our continued correspondence and sharing of family information.
