I was born at the Southern Baptist Hospital in New Orleans on May 19, 1961, but was adopted from the Methodist Home Hospital. I have since found my birthmom, but am still looking for information on my birthfather. I know where he lived at the time of my birth, but don't have much to go on other than that. I do have his weight, height, hair color, and eye color. Any one that might could help me get more information on him may email me privately at the email above. Thanks, Vicki

Pat,

I got my information from the Louisiana Voluntary Adoption Registry. Their number is 1-800-259-2456. You will need to request a packet and fill it out and send it back in. Then they will send you your non identifying information. Mine had my birthmother's first and middle name in it, but sometimes you get more and sometimes less. It also had her date of birth or rather the month and her age at my birth which helped me find out the year she was born. From there a couple of search angels and myself burnt the midnight oils till we found her (3 months). I knew she was born in Missouri from my information also. We went through 800 before we found her but it was all very much worth it. Now as far as my birthfather is concerned it gave me very little to go on and that is why I am having so much trouble finding him. It has been 18 months on him. And nothing really good to go on yet. If you have access to yahoo go to the groups there and join Adoption Cafe and Soaring Angels Both of them are wonderful search groups and have helped me alot. IF you need anything email me again and I will try to help you. ALso here is the name of the best search angel I know. angelfischer6387@yahoo.com She helped me find mom and is helping me with my bf. Good luck and keep in touch.

I sometimes give advice to adoptees who are in search of an unwed father whose name is unknown, but without feedback from the adoptees, I don't know if my advice is good.

There is a possibility that the birth father contributed a few bucks toward the maternity care---the hospital bill, If so, his name might be on the financial record if it still exists.

If the pregnant woman sought welfare benefits, an agency may have filed a paternity suit against the alfa (alleged father). I wouldn't know how to look that up at the courthouse even if I knew his name.

Prior to the Supreme Court case known as Stanley vs. Illinois, there was little incentive for social workers to pressure the pregnant women into revealing the names of their lovers---it would just be one more person to hunt down to ask to sign a surrender form. But the adoption agency might know the father's name.
