Seattle Orphanages in the 30's

Sharon  (View posts) Posted: 4 Feb 2001 7:42PM GMT
My father Clark Hills was in an orphanage in Seattle in 1930 after his parents died. Would anyone know the name of Orphanages that were in Seattle at that time. He later lived in Montana and then returned to Washington.
Thanks for any help.
Sharon

Does anyone have information about a Foundling's Home in Seattle? My dad was brought there as an infant and adopted at around 2 years of age. His birthdate is February 18, 1925. His adoptive name is William Joseph Pliska, he was adopted by Anna (Willi) Pliska and Joseph Pliska about 1928. Any information would be helpful. Thanks!

I would like to know if you found anything out about the Washington State Foundling Home. My mother in law was born there and then fostered out until she was adopted at 6. Born 12-6-33 to a Myra Robbins

Dear Kari,
Thanks for your inquiry, I haven't found anything on the Seattle Children's Home/Foundling Home. I'll keep in touch if I do. My dad was placed there as an infant in 1925.

I'm in the Seattle area and know of this organization. What exactly is it that you need to know about them?? Email me at kat@mausershooters.org, and what I don't know I can find out for you.

Hi! Thanks for your response. I'm looking for information about my dad. He lived in the Seattle Children's/Foundling Home from 0-3 years of age.( William Joseph Pliska born in 1925.) He was adopted by Annemarie and Joe Pliska around the age of three. I understand that the Home burned down in the '30's or 40's sometime and the birth records they had were destroyed, my dad's among them. I'm trying to find his birth parents, his mother had a Polish last name and was from Wisconsin, I think. If you have any ideas, let me know. My dad said the Home was funded by the State of Washington.
Thanks!
Anne

Hello,
The LDS possibly could help you with this one. They have the Washington State Birth Index 1907-1954, Births 1907-1948 and Delayed Birth Certificates 1850-1960. Also, they have the Washington State Death Index 1907-1979 and Death Certificates 1907-1960. Does your father think that he was born in King County and/or one of the neighboring counties. If so that will narrow down your search of the birth records. Since he doesn't know his parents names you will have to go thru all the films for the calendar year that he was born, line by line and page by page. This should narrow down your search to a handfull of possibilities. Does your father know if his natural parents died? Another suggestion is the newspapers. Most papers are on film. Check all the papers in the communities that he thinks that he was born in. And what about the hospitals in the area. They should have records on all births born. If your father is still alive, an attorney possibily could help here.
