Hi,
I am trying to find an emigration of William Tom Newman (born 1854) in Gillingham Dorset. He married Alice Pierson and had 2 children, George and Adelaide. I cannot find him after 1861, and I know at some point he moved to St.Louis in America.

I am trying to find his passage to America, and which boat, etc , he went over on. Any help greatly appreciated

Are your years accurate?

If he was born in 1854 and you last found him in 1861, he would have been 7 years old. Is this correct?

Where did you get the information on his wife and children?

If you can narrow down the "at some point" emigration, it might help someone find the records for you.

Hi thanks for the reply. I thought at first he was gone by 1871 (max age 17). But I think I have found him in later census, so possibly between 1890 - 1910. I know his wife and children through another family member, they are just unsure how he came from the UK to St.Louis

- William and Alice, and their parents, were born in England.
- William and Alice had immigrated in 1875, living in the U.S. for 25 years. He was naturalized. They had been married 15 years.
- The children were born in Missouri, still single, and At School.
- William was a Merchant Tailor. Alice ran a Boarding House, and 12 boarders were listed with them.



1910 Missouri - City of St. Louis

- William and Alice had been married only once, for 25 years. He had immigrated in 1881 and was naturalized. She came in 1874. He was a Merchant, while Alice had no occupation.
- The children were still Students.


1920 Missouri - City of St. Louis

McFARLAND, Emma S.B., Aunt, 49
McFARLAND, Maud, 22, Cousin

George was listed as Married, but no wife was shown. He probably was still single. He was born in Missouri, his parents in England. He was a Merchant Tailor.
- Emma was widowed, born (as were her parents) in England, immigrated in 1875, and had no occupation.
- Maud was single, born in Missouri, her father in Massachusetts, her mother in England. She was a Bookkeeper.
