Without some more dates, I found these possibilities:

Name: Stella Alfreda Brodie
Spouse: Leslie Jno Howard
Marriage: 1920 - Victoria

last time I find her on the ER:

Name: Stella Alfreda Howard
Gender: Female
Electoral Year: 1954
State: Victoria
District: Fawkner
Subdistrict: Prahran
at 2/292 Punt Rd - on her own ( same as 1949 )..in 1942, she was on her own at 183 Brighton Rd..but I spotted leslie John HOWARD with a Dorothy Mernda HOWARD at 260 Barkly Rd - he was a painter. Dorothy was nee WARD and died 1978..she was with Leslie from at least 1937, so maybe Leslie hadn't taken his name off the 1937 ER:

Name: Dorothy Mernda Howard
Gender: Female
Electoral Year: 1937
State: Victoria
District: Batman
Subdistrict: Alphington
living 106 Westgarth St - with Leslie a painter..they are still together in 1977

:
Name: Stella Alfreda Howard
Gender: Female
Electoral Year: 1937
State: Victoria
District: Henty
Subdistrict: Sandringham
at 158 South Rd- Leslie is an operator

don't know if this is her..but amazing coincidence if not:

Name: Stella Alfreda Brodie
Date of Birth: 13 Apr 1895
Gender: Female
Birth County or District: York
Father's Name: David Brodie - a painter
Mother's name: Mary Woodward
Archive Name: Archives of Ontario
Archive Series: MS929
Archive Reel: 130
living 371 Gerrard Street E
However I just found a death for a Stella Brodie b 1892 in York of influenza 1920...so maybe not!

anyway, moving on...

1925:

HOWARD (nee Stella Brodie) -On the 20th

August at Creswick House (private hospital) Hampton street, Hampton, to Mr und Mrs leslie Howard, of Acheron South road, Brighton-a dauthter (Daphne Doreen)

Hope this helps a bit

Jocelyn

Just tried a different search trick:

The Argus (Melbourne, Vic. : 1848 - 1956)
Saturday 18 December 1920

HOWARD-BRODIE.?On the 4th December, by

Rev..H. S. Joyce, at the Congregational Church, East Malvern, John Leslie (late 4th M.T.M.B,, 2nd Division, A.I.F.), fourth son of Mr. and Mrs, B. Howard, "Melrose," Hobson street, Hawksburn, to Stella Alfreda, second daughter of Mr. and Mrs. D. Brodie, "Craigie Lea," Repton road,East Malvern

so then I found this:

Name: David Brodie
Gender: Male
Electoral Year: 1914
State: Victoria
District: Henty
Subdistrict: Malvern East
with wife Mary at Repton rd. David was a painter
the marriage:

Name: David Brodie
Spouse Name: Mary Woodward
Marriage Place: Victoria
Registration Place: Victoria
Registration Year: 1887
Registration number: 5963

so that birth in Canada was the correct one!

They were back in Vic for the birth of the next daughter:

Name: Elizth Violetta Brodie
Mother: Mary Woodward
Father: David Brodie
Birth: 1900 - South Yarra, Victoria

cheers
Jocelyn

Thanks, fairly sure that's her. Now just to try and track down if her and my grandfather actually married or if she just took the name Johnson
per page
