I have done an extensive study of the town of Marsicovetere and would be able to assist descendents from that town if they have specific information.

Surnames: Viggiano, Pasquale
Peter Pascale,
Our grandfather, Guiseppe Viggiano, and his brother Carlo
aka Charley, emigrated from Marsicovetere, to the US and
I think went to Wheeling, W. VA first and then on to Pittsburgh, PA . His daughters were born in 1906 and 1908 in
Wheeling so he went to Pgh. after that. Charley, a musician
played the violin and Guiseppe also a musician played the
harp. (we have his harp) The interesting thing is his mother
was Rosa Pasquale of Marsicovetere.
Hoping to hear from you. Thank you

Hello Donna
In my records I show two Rosa Pascale's married to Viggiano's. The first family , Rosa Pascale b. 1843 married a Giuseppe Viggiano b. 1827 ,Married in 1862 . I show them with 2 sons Francesco Antonio and Giuseppe Maria b. 1868.
The second family , Maria Rosa Pascale b. 1862 married to Francesco Antonio Viggiano b. abt. 1862 ,married 1882. I show them with three children Isabella 1884, Giuseppe 1886, Nicoletta Maria Caterina b. 1890.
there may well be other children for either family that I missed.
Does either of these families sound like the right ones.
Let me know, regards Peter

Hi Peter,
Thanks for your reply. I don't know which family because
this is a breakthru for me. I haven't been able to find any
thing in Italy about them. I started researching about the
harp.
On Guiseppe's death certificate they list the birth of the
brother Charley (Carlo) which I just found out is in error.
Guiseppe was b.December 23, 1871 and Charley 1866.
They had a sister that I have a picture of and on one of
the census they list her Kact. The other clue I have is
that Guiseppe's middle name was Marian (listed) and
everyone in the family said they had not heard of that but
this would coincide with the first Viggiano's that is Guiseppe
Maria b. 1868. This could be him. On the 1880 US census
they show Rosa married to Frank Pasquale and this is
confusing and I will have to do more work here. They had
a Viggiano Bros. confectionary store in Wheeling, W.VA.
but primarily they were musicians - and this Frank Pasquale
was listed as a musician also.
The first faamily seems to fit in many ways. Are they related
to you? All I found on Marsicovetere was a picture. We are
a family of musicians also.

Thanks,
Donna Negri

Re: Marsicovetere, Potenza Italy - Joseph Barbino

Surnames: Barbino, Cortese, Viggiano
My family roots are in the Chicago area. My paternal grandfather always claimed that his parents were from Marsicovetere. His father's surname was Barbino, first name was Joseph. However, my grandpa also said that his father was orphaned and may have been raised by another Marsicovetere family --surname of Cortese, first name of Joseph. Joseph Barbino always listed as his brother, Pasquale Cortese (Oscar). It appears that these two "brothers" married two of Viggiano sisters --Caterina and Teresa --also supposedly from Marsicovetere. Do you have any info on any of these surnames?

I'm assuming your grandfather was Giovanni ( John ) Barbino born in 1881. Originally spelled Barabino.
When did he arrive in USA, who did he marry?

Hello Peter,
My family is from Marsico Nuovo, Potenza and I have 4 documents that I would love to have translated, but am on a very limited budget. Do you know of anyone who can translate them for me? They are 2 birth, 1 marriage and 1 death record and all from the late 1800's.
Thank you.

Dear ReeJohnson2407,

You can upload images to this board and perhaps someone here will help you with translations.

It would be best to begin a new thread and not attach them to this older thread.

Hello,

I have been doing some research into my mother's family and I found that my Great Grandparents left Italy from Naples but were originally from Marsicovetere. I have been unable to figure out how to look further into my family in Italy and was wondering if you could give me any information you could on Nicole Pascale (Jan. 20, 1880) and Cristina Pascale (Dec. 28, 1885). They left Italy in 1908. I am unsure if the birthdays are correct, but they are what I could find on their petition for naturalization. I would greatly appreciate any information you could give me.
