Leonard J. Miller, 81, of Waukon, died Saturday, July 31, 1999 at Veterans Memorial hospital in Waukon, IA, following a brief illness. Funeral services were held Wednesday, August 4 at 10:30 a.m. at Zion United Church of Christ in Waukon with Rev. Richard N. Eick officiating. Burial will be in Oakland Cemetery in Waukon.

Leonard Jasper Miller was born on October 16, 1917 on the rural Waukon farm of his parents, Frank D. and Maude E. (Livingood) Miller. He attended Ludlow #7 rural school. On March 21, 1942 he married Ruth Hansmeier at the Zion United Church of Christ parsonage in Waukon. Leonard farmed all of his life in addition to a variety of other jobs. He worked in the John Deere foundry in Waterloo, hauled canned milk, sheared sheep, was a yardman at UBC Lumber Yard in Waukon, drove truck for R.J. Cooney, was a carpenter and did a lot of trapping. Leonard was a member of Zion United Church of Christ in Waukon where he was bapitzed and confirmed, and also the Allamakee County Farm Bureau. He enjoyed bowling, hunting and fishing, and spending time outdoors looking for ginseng. He also liked playing cards and dancing.

Leonard is preceded in death by his parents, his step-mother Lottie, his brother Frank C. Miller, 2 sisters, Cynthia Ludeking and Abbie Westerholm, 2 step-sisters, Dorothy Rose and Elizabeth Carwick and a great-granddaughter, Amanda Berg.

Survivors include his wife Ruth, 3 sons, Charles and wife Jean of Corvallis, OR.; Dennis, and wife Karla, and Clint, both of Waukon, 3 daughters, Sharon, and husband James Boland, and Janice and husband Larry Ramstad, both of Decorah and Rhonda and husband Kirby Cahoon of Waukon, 13 grandchildren and 12 great-grandchildren.

Casketbearers were Troy Ramstad, Mark Boland, Jonathan Miller, David Miller, Blair Cahoon, Mike Miller, Jerry Berg, Jodi Miller, Renee Boland, Joan Berg, Nicole McCasland, Stephanie Radloff, Kristan Miller and Megan
Cahoon.

SERVICES HELD FOR LOTTIE MILLER

Lottie Elizabeth Miller, daughter of Leon and Minnie (Barker) Gress was born Aug. 16, 1896 and passed away at the Waukon Good Samaritan Center Mar. 21, 1978 at the age of 81 years, 7 mo. and 5 days. She attended school at Fayette and Hawkeye, Iowa.

On Dec. 11, 1912 she was united in marriage to Edward Carwick at West Union. They resided at Postville, where Mr. Carwick passed away June 2, 1916.

On Feb. 26, 1919 she married Frank D. Miller at Waukon. They lived on a farm in Ludlow Township for 47 years where Mr. Miller passed away Aug. 28, 1965. She then moved to Monona, Iowa to be with her daughter.

She was a long time member of the Wesleyan Methodist Church at West Union.

Left to mourn her passing are her daughter, Mrs. Dorothy Rose; son-in-law, Harold Rose; two grandchildren, Cletus and Gary Rose; two granddaughters-in-law, Lottie and Elaine Rose; six great-grandchildren: Craig, Juanita, Clinton, Lynn, Nadine and Kyle Rose; one sister, Mrs. Vera Sutter, Cedar Rapids; one brother Clifford Gress, Waterloo; two stepsons, Frank C. Miller and Leonard Miller and one step-daughter Abbie Westerholm all of Waukon.

Preceding her in death were her husbands, one infant daughter, her parents, four brothers, and two sisters.

Pallbearers were Gary Rose, Cletus Rose, Jim Rose, Lynn Rose, Dennis Miller, and Clint Miller.

Services were held Fri. afternoon at 1:30 at Postville with Rev. Rumppe of West Union officiating. Burial was in Postville Cemetery. Hand dated, 1978.

SERVICES HELD FOR LOTTIE E. MILLER

Funeral services were held Friday, March 24, at 1:30 p.m. at the Schutte Funeral Home, Postville, for Lottie E. Miller who died Tuesday, March 21 at the Good Samaritan Center, Waukon. The Rev. K. G. Rumppe, West Union, officiated.

Born August 16, 1896 at Fayette, Iowa, she was the daughter of Leon and Minnie Barker Gress. She attended school at Fayette and Hawkeye.

December 11, 1912 she was united in marriage to Edward Corwick at West Union and they lived in Postville. Mr. Corwick died June 2, 1916.

February 26, 1919, Lottie was married to Frank D. Miller at Waukon. They lived on a farm in Ludlow Township for 47 years, until Mr. Miller's death August 28, 1965. She then moved to Monona to be with her daughter.

Lottie was a long time member of the Wesleyan Methodist Church at West Union.

Interment was in the Postville Cemetery.

Mrs. Leon L. Gress Passed On Last Week

Minnie Barker was born July 22, 1873, in Fayette county, Iowa, and died in Post township, Allamakee county, Iowa, Aug. 5, 1930, aged a little more than 57 years.

She was married to Leon Gress in Wisconsin in 1894, and nine children were born to this union, four daughters and five sons. The daughters are Mrs. Melbia Wrigley of Waukon Junction, Mrs. Frank Miller of Ludlow, Mrs. Vera Nyborg of Gunder (rest of clipping is missing)
