My gggrandfather John E Daub, born 31 December 1812 and his wife Apollonea (Fischer) born 1821 emigrated to Minnesota in 1871 along with his brother Theodore. I believe John's parents were Martin and Maria. John reportedly was a professor in Wurtemburg, Germany. I have no information on the family in Germany. Can anyone help?

Hello,
John E. Daub married to Appelonia Fischer is my great-great-grandfather. I am posting information in my family history and I will soon be adding information on Martin. My great aunt Anne Daub visited the family in Germany several years ago and I have her notes. I just finished posting information about Theodore Daub, John's son. My great grandfather was also John Daub and his son Ludwig Otto was my grandfather. Let's keep in touch.

Here are notes from my great aunt:
Martin Daub-my dad's grandfather lived at Rotenburg on Nerkar in Wurtenburg (or Schwalen). He was a soapmaker "seiferseder". Had the business in the lower half of house. He left Germany about 1855 of so after his wife died. His 2 daughters and one son (Nicolas-Louiville, Kentucky; Theresa Christman, Cinncinnatti Ohio; Lenora Phiffer-Newark, NJ.). Martin made several (2-3) trips back and forth (to America) and died enroute of some illness and was buried at sea (dropsy).

Hi,
I am Chuck Daub's sister-he has the reunions. Our grandfathers are brothers. The note of great aunt Anne's confuses me. It says Martin had 2 daughters and a son, but that son is not named John and he moved to Kentucky. Our gg grandfather (Theodore's dad) was John and came to Minnesota. I heard that she hadn't actually found relatives. I know that gggrandfather John's death certificate does say that his father was Martin. What are your thoughts on that?

Hello,
Thanks for your question. I will take another look at the notes from Ann as I may have left something off. I checked my ancestry tree it shows that Martin and Maria had five children: Lenora, Jacob, Nicholas, John (our gg) and Theresa.Lenora lived in New Jersey, Nicholas lived in Kentucky, and Theresa lived in Ohio. I am not sure if Jacob came to the U.S. I am wondering if Ann meant to say that two daughters and one son (in addition to John) came to America. Ann did find relatives and took extensive notes. I have scanned them and can send you a copy if you send me your email address.

Hi, so glad to see your reply. I'd love to see Aunt Ann's info. I bet you're right and she was reporting on family other than her/our direct line. My email is

. Thanks!

One more thought. Theodor seems to be 8 years older than the next sibling. I wonder if there was a first marriage? It is just speculation.
