My Grandfather Oren Leroy Throop was born in raised here in Monroe County. His parents were Charles and Mary Throop. One brother, Ray. I have no other information.

Hi Terry...... From History of Monroe County, MI. by Talcott E. Wing, 1890, under Milan Township:

Charles E.THROOP, was born at York, Washtenaw County, Michigan, April 10, 1860. His parents were eastern people, his father being born in Vermont and his mother in Albany, New York. They came to Michigan in 1860, settling upon a farm. Charles remained at home until 1886, when he purchased a grocer's stock and engaged in the grocery business. Previous to this he had worked as a stationary engraver. April 10th he married Mary Duboise, of Milan. She was born in LaSalle, Monroe Co., Michigan, July 14, 1870.

My grandmother, Ethel Throop Jewell (9-8-1892 - 2-09-1964) was the daughter of Charles E and Mary DuBois Throup. She married George Levi Jewell around 1910. I can provide more information on their family if interested.

According to a Throup Family Bible. There was a son Edwin born 1-15-1888, son Ray Austin b 5-14-1890, daughter Edna Rachel born 11-19-1894, son Oren LeRoy born 1/27/1904. Ray married Lizzie Martin 11/23/1912, they divorced 5/28/1917, he married Eva Everett 5/31/1917. I think they had 2 children Hazel Eva born in Ypsilanti Mi 10/5/1921 and Rose Marie born 2/18/1930.

I would appreciate any additional information on the Throup family, I am trying to trace my grandmother, Ethel Jewell's heritage. Thank you.

I have been looking at it for the past 3 weeks and most of the information appears correct. There are some problems with the places. For example Washtenaw Co., Michigan was not settled until 1824 and York Twp was created around 1835 so they could not have been married here in 1799.

There was also a dedication ceremony for Capt. Daniel Throop and the event was videotaped.

Check the census for 1860 in the state of Michigan, Washtenaw County, York Township for Edwin Throop.

Salomon and Polly Throop with his parents Daniel and Mary Throop alone with Mary Barnes Throop father Capt. Daniel Throop appear to have come to York Township, Washtenaw Co., Michigan around 1833. Salomon's brother Enos came around 1837 to York Township.

Capt. Daniel Throop was from Connecticut and the family website indicates the family was from England.
