Can anyone tell me if the village or town of Metropolitan, Ontario, Blanshard Twp., Perth County is still in existence or is it a ghost town and it's location distance wide to Granton or St. Mary's, Ontario. Also, is there a United or Presbyterian Church and graveyard located there?

Thanks.

Metropolitan was neither a town nor a village, but an area. There was at one time in the late 1860's a Temperance Hall and a post office located on Concession 8 of Blanshard Township, Lot s 13 & 14. The name Metropolitan was given to the post office and mail was delivered there bi weekly to be picked up/sent by the area farmers. The location is about one & a quarter miles South of Woodham & two and one half miles East.
Abt 7 miles to St.Marys.
Also on concession 8 at lot 22 (about one and one half miles South of Meytropolitan) was the McIntyre's Methodist Church built circa 1864/65. This church closed in the mid 1880's. there is no evidence of a church there today, but the cemetery is still there. All the surviving stones have been placed on one cement pad. Many other stones have been lost or buried.

My g.g.grandfather, Leslie Youngson, owned Lot 22 on Conc. 8 in Blanshard, and according to a map, circa 1878, there was a building called Temple Hall on the corner of the lot. He also owned Lot 13, Conc.9

Hi Jim...I am looking for my great aunt who I believe was buried in McIntyres Cemetery. We live very close, but I was only 10 years old when they moved the stones. Do you have any suggestions about what may have happened to the stones not good enough to put on the pad, or where I may find original burial records? The township office has no info. Many of my relatives stones are on the pad, but some are missing...

The broken or unreadable stones were likely buried or taken away. The only suggestion I may have is that the United Church archives in Toronto may have some info on the McIntyre Church and possibly deaths and burials. Records from various methodist churches were supposed to be sent to the archives, but a lot were not, so this would be a long shot at best.
Good luck!
