I am trying to solve a mystery here. The Gillilans are a family prominently associated with SE Ohio, primarily Scioto and Jackson counties. But when I transcribed the following obit, the reference to Tygart left me scratching my head:

From The Portsmouth Times
Portsmouth, Ohio
15 January, 1916

Mrs. Mary Elizabeth Gillilan
After a two years' illness with heart trouble death Friday evening claimed Mrs. Mary Elizabeth Gillilan, a highly respected woman who for years had resided in Tygart, Ky. She had been seriously ill for two weeks. Mrs. Gillilan is survived by several children. She was 52 years old. The funeral services were held Saturday and interment was made in the Gillilan private cemetery near Tygart.

I was unaware there were any Gillilan families in that area and certainly had no idea there existed a Gillilan cemetery. Can anyone provide me with some clues in solving this mystery?

Thanks!

Let me add one other obituary that may help to shed some light on the family. The Belle Gillilan of this obit was, I believe, the daughter of the Mrs. Mary Elizabeth Gillilan of the first obituary I posted.

From The Portsmouth Times
Portsmouth, Ohio
14 March, 1914

Miss Belle Gillilan
Miss Belle Gillilan, daughter of Mrs. M. Gillilan of 917 Oakes street, died Wednesday morning after an extended illness. The body was shipped to Enterprise, Ky., where the last rites and interment took place Thursday. The family formerly resided here.
