Surnames: Daley, Daily, Daly, Dawley, Dalaigh, O'Daly, O'Dalaigh, Tully, Stravin
Hello
I'm looking for information on the family of John J. Daley (b.1870) and Mary Ellen Tully (b.1871). They both state that they were born in Ireland on a 1900 census. John says that he immigrated in 1873 and Mary Ellen says she immigrated in 1890. They were married abt. 1896. They had at least 5 children:
Frank Daley b. 1898
Helen Daley b. Aug 23 1909 m. a man with surname Stravin
George A. Daley b. Feb 1900
John Daley b. 1903
William Daley b. 1896
I have found John J. and family in 1900, 1920, and 1930 in Boston, Massachusetts. John was employed as a steamfitter. I don't know the names of John's parents so I can't seem to locate him any earlier. If anyone has any additional information or connections, I would love to share information.

Thank you so much. I have been at this road block in my family's research for so long. I really can't thank you enough. Whether John J. had been born in the US or in Ireland has been unclear. How would I then go about tracing Michael and Mary further back? Thanks once again.

Hi Tim,

sorry abt. that .. I meant to say look for birth record
of Michael in NY, and a death rec in Mass likely
I dont have online access after 1910.

also look for census records to see when he may have imm.

then move to the shiplists to see if you can find him.

I would say the best place is with the below site

and mailing list , like Daly-l its a rootsweb mailing list

I am definately stuck on my early

Ireland immigrant Christopher Dailey of Maine also.

so i'm not the expert on that subject.

also the e-mail you list for the boards is bouncing.

Thank you so much. George is actually my ggrandfather, so this record helps me a lot.

I searched the 1880 US census, figuring that Michael and Mary Daley would at least have John J. listed, as he was born in 1870, but there were no exact matches.

I did find a close match in Massachusetts, which has a Michael Daley, Mary, and John, but the birth year for John is off by 2 years and it lists his birthplace as Massachusetts. I know the census can be innacurate, but this still did not seem right.

I have not had any luck locating a Massachusetts Death record for Michael or Mary Daley or a New York birth record for John in 1870, as I don't have acess to those records.

Thanks again for helping me with those names. This has been the most I've recorded about this family line. Its been great.

Hi Tim,

In seeking Michael you may want to post
on the Suffolk Co. Mass list for help.
I would ask if anyone might look
up in probate indexes for a will also.
give them the info you do know,
and someone may be willing to look and see.
estimate the death date as they will need
that. In this line you will also want to
look for death certificates of all his children,
as that may well provide info on him.
It is sometimes amazing how they can be different
in knowledge of the parents..
Also they can sometimes be tracked in the directories,
[phone books] as they were pretty good in that timeframe.
for this area.

Did the family ever move from Boston?
Do you know where any of them are buried?
cemetery records can also yield tidbits or goldmines.

I would post the query after the Holidays
as winter is generally a good time to ask
as things speed up abit genealogically speaking
at that time.
There are people who volunteer thier time
to do RAOGK random acts of genealogical kindness.
if you query to them you may find them helpfull.

are you far from Mass?

Happy Hunting
