I am a volunteer researcher for the Texas Peace Officers Memorial. On 15 Jan 1883 Brazos County Deputy Sheriff Smith deputized William E. FLETCHER, merchant and railroad agent at Wellborn, to assist him in arresting Burl BURLESON for wife beating and assault. During the attempted arrest BURLESON shot FLETCHER in the heart and killed him. FLETCHER wounded BURLESON in the stomach and he died on 17 January 1883 in the county jail. FLETCHER was buried in the Bryan City Cemetery. The 1880 census reports he was born about 1847 and was married to Annie FLETCHER, 27. I am searching for any surviving family members.

I remember the Fletchers that lived across the track from our family home off Welborn Road. I don't know that they would be whom you are loking for but willing to see if I can help. Do you know the names of the Fletchers children ?
