I’ve known her to be blond, auburn, and brunette, and of course varying shades and tones of each. Her true hair color was a very deep blackish color with hints of brown and auburn highlights and definitely reflected her Cherokee heritage. Not that this is relevant to anything really. I remember she used to dye it herself and there was a point where her hair was so dry it felt almost like straw. Of course this was in the late 70’s and early 80’s when hair color treatments weren’t so gentle. I even got the very ‘aromatic’ treat of helping her with it once in a while, which I tried to avoid. Peroxide and all the other gunk in the dyes smelled a lot like eggs with a very pungent chemically smell.

Police are unsure of how Appleton died because there were no visible injuries on his body.
Police suspect the homeless man may have gotten drunk and died of exposure.
An autopsy was performed Monday to determine what caused the death of a 44 year old man whose body was found Monday morning in a parking lot of a trucking company in North Springfield.
The body of David Appleton was discovered by employees of Carolina Freight Carriers 1454 N Hampton Avenue when they showed up for work about 6:45 am. Springfield police said.
Police were unsure how the man died. There were no visible injuries on Appleton's body, which when found had on blue jeans, no shirt and only one shoe, Lt Steve Hamilton said.
Police did not rule out homicide, though they speculated that Appleton had gotten drunk, passed out and died from exposure to the elements. Appleton, who police said was homeless, had a history of substance abuse, Sgt Kevin Routh said. An empty vodka bottle
was found near the body, police said.
The cold temperature Monday morning made it difficult to determine the time of death. Hamilton said it was likely Appleton died sometime Sunday.
Evidence also showed that someone searched the man's body at or near the time of death, Routh said.
Results of the autopsy are expected in the next several days, said Dr James Spindler, who performed the autopsy at Cox Medical center South. 5. county history. The first indictment for murder was returned at the July term of court, 1840, when one Monroe or Milroy Powell was charged with the murder of George Eubanks by striking him over the head with a weeding hole. In this case the instructions to the jury by the court were of considerable length. The trial resulted in a verdict of "manslaughter in the fourth degree," and, in the words of the verdict rendered, the jury "do find him in the sum of three hundred and twenty-five dollars." Powell was sentenced to six months' imprisonment in the county jail by the court. However, he was released before the expiration of his term.
