Surnames: Schearer, Sherer
I am looking for my Grandfather who came to Galviston TX in 1901. I haven't found any records that have his name. His younger brother immigrated after that. Frank is said to have worked up the Galviston Pipeline & may have worked in the Eastern US & eventually made it to Canada in 1911. Where he opened a shoeshop. He had gone to tradeschool at a Catholic school in Polenski, Poland (now, then Austria) He wasn't the oldest so he was sent from the family to learn a trade. All contact w/family overseas has been lost. Any information at all would be appreciated.

Hi,
Thanks for looking. I thought I found it earlier about in the middle of Poland or to the East a little. I was even looking up the town trying to see if they had a convent that taught Shoemaking, but couldn't come close to that kind of information. Let me check on the place again & I'll get back to you.

Maleniska, Podkarpackie, Poland. I found on the lower East part of Poland. Thanks for helping me.

Frank probably went up the Galvastin Pipeline to the mid-east of the US until he made it to Canada in around 1910, so for 9 years we don't know where he lived in the US.

Adolph was his younger brother who came in 1910. We don't even know how many more were in the family. He lived w/Frank & family in 1920 census in Great Falls, MT. Met them in Alberta Canada & immigrated w/much of the family who settle in Great Falls after losing 3 family members to the 1916 flu epidemic.

Thank you very much for your help. I may be able to find something from the German decendants page. My mom had Bosnia Hertz of Govina as information, but that is more a region unless there is some little town somewhere w/the same name.

I take it that you have not found him on a ship manifest?

Bosnia-Hercegovina is a country, south of Croatia.

Since there are numerous men with this name perhaps you can share Frank's approximate birthdate?
Where did he live in Canada?
What was his wife's name?
When did he die?

Did you notice the immigration year for Frank as listed on the 1920 Great Falls MT census was 1910?

What evidence do you have that Frank arrived 1901? Or is this simply family oral history?

He made it to Canada by 1911, but you say he shows up in the Great Falls MT census by 1920?

Frank could be Franz or Franc.
