hi Caira! My name is Anna Bilyk and I live in Poland. I was born here. My father's name is Adam Bilyk and he was also born here. But my grandfather - Jan Kazimierz Bilyk - was born in a small town called Brzezany, which used to belong to Poland, but now it's in Ukraine. I believe it's near Lvov - which might be easier to find on the map. I know that one of the "presidents" of Lvov, around the time of the Second World War, was also called Bilyk (Alfred Bilyk, I think). You can find this name in some historical books, especially the Polish ones (I have one at home) and I have seen a programme about this man on TV. However, when I asked my grandfather about Alfred Bilyk, he said they were not relatives. I think you can find a lot of people called Bilyk and they usually come from Ukraine (former territory of Poland) or around Austria. So, what do you think about it? I hope to hear from you.

Anna,

My name is David Billig. I am looking for information on my Great-grandfather Moses Billig. While I have lots of information on his 7 children I have no information on him. All I know is that he was born in 1864 and he and his wife Mary came here from Austria in 1887 with one child, Myron.

I was able to locate his grave here in New York and found out that he was buried along with members of a lodge that was called the Brzezaner lodge. You mentioned in your post that your family was from Brzezany. Do you know of Biliyk's from there that may have changed their names to Billig or maybe had their named changed as a result of misspelling? Are there any Billig's from that area? Do you think the Brzezaner lodge members could have originally been from that town???

I hope you are able to receive this and can write back. You can reply to the post or you can contact me at dbillig@aol.com
