Just opened up on this message board. My Mary Eckles (d. after 1820)was d/o of Robert Edward Eckles, native of Dorchester, Mass, moved to North Caroline, then to Midway, GA. All this info is taken from Lambert Family book, by Alton Lambert, pub. Steward Univ. System, Centre, AL. Alton got his info from the Morgan Family Bible, microfilm at Georgia State Library. I will quote from Alton's book: "From an old Morgan Family Bible presently in the hands of Mrs. Wallace O. Harris, Cochran, Ga., the following record is taken: Robert Edward Eccles (Eckles), native of Dorechester, Mass., moved to South Carolina, then to Midway, GA. He was born about 1720. The name of his wife is unstated. The only child named in the Bible is: Mary Eckles....." Then give the dates of Mary, her marriage to Luke John Morgan. Possibly this could help you. I have copies of the Bible that have entries. I will look over these tonight. If we are looking for the same Robert - two's always better at looking than one... If I find the entry in my copy, I will let you know. Then give me your address and I will mail a copy.

Hello Peggy, I was wondering if you know where in SC your Robert Eckles was living before he removed to GA? I have a Simmons line from Darlington, SC circa 1790s-early 1800s who named one of their sons Samuel Eccles Simmons. I have been trying for years to find out how the Eccles name ties in, possibly as a maiden name of the mother of my Simmons (her given name was Cynthia, possibly Cynthia Ann). Any clues or advice from anybody is much appreciated. Thanks, Duke Jones

The info I found on Mary Eckles was found in a book LAMBERT FAMILY pub. 1979 by Alton Lambert, 8 Juanita Dr., Tuscalossa, AL 35404. On pg. 25 -
Robert Edward Eccles (Eckles), native of Dorchester, Mass., moved to South Carolina, then to Midway, GA. He was born about 1730. The name of his wife is unstated. The only child named in the Bible is: Mary Eckles. b. 1730, d. 8 Jan 1820,:in her 70th year" mar. ca 1764 Luke John Morgan. (Other siblings probably would not be listed in the Morgan Bible.)

Info for this part of book is taken from the Morgan Family bible, microfilm at Georgia State Archives where copies can be obtained. The book is poorly documented, but I received copies of the handwritten entries which is part of the above.

If this helps, great. If you have info that connects us, please share. Thanks, Peggy

Would you have the name Jane Eckles or Echols who married Solomon Ray in 1796 in Wilkes co Ga(St Paul's Parish) in your files. She might have been the sister of Robert Eckles but I am not sure. Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks

Mary Eccles, daughter of Robert moved to Midway,Georgia from the colonial village of Dorchester,SC with many of the other settlers about 1752. This group of Puritans came had come from Dorchester,Massachusetts in 1695 and earlier (1630) from Dorchester and some of the other southwestern parts of England. That said I have not been able to verify much about the Eccles/Eckles family.

I can't find out anything either. I have William Edward (Edwoard) ECKLES, in W. Baton Rouge Parish, LA by 1845. Land grant documents say 'a married man', but I can't find a wife or the death of a wife, and by 1852 he was married to Marie Aurora Babin, in the Catholic Church. He had 3 very young daughter, all baptized in the Church. A year later, I have his succession. I can't find any death record or burial record.

On his marriage documents, he states his parents' names only as William Eckles and Anne.
