My name is Linda Stanley. My mother's maiden name is Allie Etue. She is one of ten children born to Marion Oliver Etue and Leaffie Ethel Burnette- Etue. Their children's names are: Marian Loveda,Theodore "Pete," Allie Alene (my mom), Evelyn Ethel, John Joseph, Holden Oliver, Marion Oliver Jr. "Curly," Ira Alfred, Bessie Laverne, and Bobby Ray. Mom says that her grandmother Allie delivered John and she thinks she may have delivered Holden. She also said that her grandmother Allie died when her brother Holden was a baby. Mom thinks she was around six years old when her grandmother died. If these fact are accurate, Mom's grandmother Allie should have died in January of 1940 in Kalesaw, Arkansas which was nicknamed Rag City. Mom says that her grandmother was living in a tent at the time of her death, and her son Manual lived in a tent on a hill close by. Another of Allie's sons- Marion Oliver (my grandfather) and his family were living in another tent on a hill closeby.
Mom told me that the names of her father's parents were: Theodore Franklin Etue and Allie Ann Sevilla. My mom's sister said that Allie Ann Sevilla's last name is Walters. For some reason, I always thought it was Waters.
Mom said that her grandmother Allie died when she was very young. Just the same, Mom has fond memories of her grandmother. She said that her grandmother Allie used to read the Bible to her and the other children and give them peanuts. She said that her grandmother would also make shoes and clothing for them and bake goodies for them to eat. Mom said her grandmother was Cherokee Indian and knew herbal remedies and delivered many babies. She said Allie already had a child by the name of John when she met Theodore Etue. Theodore and Allie had five children between them: Marion Oliver, Charles, Manual, Ira, and Bessie. Bessie was married to a man by the last name of Stites who was killed working as a guard at Alcatras. Mom also tells me that her grandmother Allie had brothers by the name of Holden and John. I noticed that you mentioned that Allie had brothers named Marshall, Marion, and Moses.
I have always been curious about my great-grandmother Allie Ann Sevilla Walters and her family. It sounds like you and I are distant cousins and that you know more about the Walters than anyone else I have come in contact with.
I would really love to know more.
