I am also looking for information on the Giffin name. My father was from Louisville, Mississippi. His father was Russell Giffin and his grandfather was Frank Giffin. That is as much information that I have.

Yes, I have a Russell Giffin in my database

I have a Russell Giffin in my database who married Helen Kreis. Don't know when he was born, or where, but his father was Joseph Giffin and mother was Erma Wise. Joseph Giffin was born on December 8, 1868.

I have a Frank Giffin, son of Merwood Giffin (born July 5, 1872) and Gertrude Cunningham.

I have another Frank Giffin, son of George Giffin and Dorcas McConnell. George Giffin was born August 19, 1827 and died May 4, 1910.

Do any of these names fit your family?

If you can, give me some more info and I'll do my best to look them up.

My email address is: dickgiffen@home.com.

Gina, thanks for checking with your father Jack Giffin regarding his father Russell Giffin, who's father was Frank Giffin. I've double checked Sadie Horton and Ella Krebbs, their spouses, and come up empty. So I guess, at the moment, I'm not much help to you. It is fun to try to find some connections.

I have some CD's from Family Tree Maker which I'll check. If I find anything I'll let you know.

If you figure out any connections, let me know, OK?

Best wishes, Dick

Giffin/Cunningham?

I know it's a long shot, but I saw the name Gertrude Cunningham and had to respond. My great grandmother's name is Alice Cunningham and she had a twin sister by the name of Gertrude. My entire family is from Virginia. I have other sibling names, but no parent names past my great-grandmother. Could there be a connection?

Thanks for your message, Monica. I found Gertrude Cunningham in my Giffen/Giffin database. She was married to Merwood Giffin (who was born July 5, 1872). Merwood Giffin's father was John H. Giffin and his mother was Margaret C. McAllister.

However, I don't have any record of Gertrude Cunningham having a twin sister named Alice. She may well have had your great grandmother Alice as her sister, I just have it in my records.

I do show that Merwood Giffin and Gertrude Cunningham had six children: Lela Giffin, Frank Giffin, Ralph Giffin, Sylvia Giffin, Mildred Giffin and Richard Giffin.

Don't know if that info is any help to you. As you may already know, my direct email address is dickgiffen@home.com

Best wishes.

Giffen - which branch ?

Dick Giffen,

I keep reading your posts. You have good information. It agress with mine (ha, ha).
Perhaps we are both referencing the Giffen Family History, written by Rev. J. W. Giffin, D.D. 1927 ?

You mentioned John Giffen (1842- 1911)He married Margaret McAllister b-1847. All of the children of this family belong to the Rock Hill Presbyterian Church.

John was the son of George Giffen, son of Robert and Mary Bane Giffen.

I grew up near close to Rock Hill. I'm originally from Shadyside, Ohio.

My mother is June Giffen, daughter of William Giffin, b-1878. Grandma was Linnie Hepburn. Residence at Shadyside, Belmont County, OH. ref. p. 112

We're descendents of George Giffen, b 1779, near the Big Spring, Cumberland County, PA. and died in Belmont County, OH 1839.

Who are you and what branch do you belong to ? Please advise.

Thanks Terry for your inquiry. Yes, you guessed it, my main resource is Rev. J. W. Giffin, DD, in 1927. But I've added a lot of data which I've gotten from other sources.

To answer your main question, Which branch am I from? Whereas your origins are through George Giffen, fifth child of Robert and Mary Bane Giffen, MY origins are via John Giffen, third child of Robert and Mary Bane Giffen.

John had a sixth child named Samuel (b. 1810) who married Margaret Kerr (b. 1823). And the two of them had an eleventh child named James Peter Giffen (b. 1866) who married Libbia Mae Sleeth who were my grandparents. My father was Horace Kerr Giffen (b. 1899) who married Helen Juliet Brown (b. 12/31/1902 and who just died, January 10, 2000) (part of this is on page 85 in Rev. Giffin's book above).

Now my question of you is: If your mother is June Giffen, daughter of William P. Giffin (b. 1878) and Sarah C. Griffith, WHO IS YOUR FATHER? And what are the dates of birth/death/spouses/children (and other data) of your mother and her 9 brothers and sisters???

You would help me update some serious gaps if you could give me that data!!

I know, it is a lot of trouble to work it out, but it's worth it, isn't it? And I'm such a nice guy!!
