Looking for any info pertaining to my/siblings stay during 1938-1944. Was not adopted as we were reclaimed by our mother. If anyone has any information of this orphanage which was located on Rowell Avenue in Joliet, IL please contact me as we are looking for records or possibly alumnis of this orphanage. Thank you!

Hi! My name is Cathy and I was helping my mother with this request as it is for her and her siblings. Thank you for the clarification. Do you know if it is possible if there is any way they can reclaim any of their medical/personal records during their stay there?
Thanks again for your assistance as my mother and sibs feel that this is a empty space in their lives.

Carol, if your mother is an adopted person and wants to find out information from the orphanage she should consider petitioning the county court where she was adopted. IL provides for an Intermediary to be appointed and access all records pertaining to the adoption for her medical background information.

Another question if you don't mind

My mother and sibs were reclaimed after 7 years of being at the orphanage. But still have no records of their medical or other. Was wondering if these could possibly be accessible? Thanks again for your help!

If there was never an adoption there would be no court files and if the orphanage is no longer the State of IL may have something. Possibily the records would be somewhere in one of the archives depository.

Carol,

I saw your posting on a Message Board about locating the Medical Records of your family. Your posting is old, so I hope you still have the same email address.

If you haven't found out any information yet, and you know the name of the Orphanage, you can check out the Archdiocese of Chicago at www.archdiocese-chgo.org. They will ask you for more information so that they can narrow you search better. There is a form to fill out and a fee to pay, but don't do any of that until you contact them first. There is a name, a phone number and an email address at the bottom of the form.

If you have any other questions you can e-mail me.

Thank you for the information. Still running into a brick wall but I will definitely look into. Would this be the Lutheran Archdiose?? Thanks again for your reply!

Would this be the orphanage during the depression?
My grandma and her brother had to stay there for a while until their parents could afford to take them back in.
I would be curious to know anything else that I could.
Thanks

Lutheran Social Services of Illinois, Peoria office has very limited records for some of the Lutheran related orphanages in Illinois.
