I am looking for information on a Seth GREEN from Indiana who was supposed to have been on the Sultana when it exploded. Can anyone verify this for me? If he was, what other info is available on Seth Green? Parents names, date and place of birth, etc.
Grateful for any information.
Thanks, Judy Mills Boie

Judy,
Seth J. Green is on the list of soldiers aboard the Sultana in the book "The Sultana Tragedy" by Jerry O. Potter. He is listed as a Pvt. in Company K of the 9th Indiana Cav. Also on Page 124 on this book there is a list of individuals who were selected to recieve money from a benefit staged by the Chicago Opera Troup and Memphis New Theater. Among those named: Seth J. Green 9th In Cavalry, $10.

You can request information from The National Archives in Washington D.C. that might give you the info you request.
Mary

Hi Mary,
Thank You so much for the info on Seth Green and the Sultana accident.
An old, old letter on family mentions my Seth Green being hurt in the Civil War and I am trying to see if the Seth Green who was hurt aboard the Sultana is my Seth. So, I truly thank you for the valuable information. I will definatly look into it.
Best Regards,
Judy Mills Boie

My great grandfather was in the 9th. I am writing a book on the regiment and would like to include personal stories. Your message is an older one and I hope you are still active in researching your ancestor in the 9th.
