My grandfather, Ludwig Schneider was born in Chotiaa, Austria in 1900. I can not locate this placename. Does anyone know where this is/was and does it exist today?

Chotiaa does not exist. it´s in any case a misspelling.
what language did he speak? german?
when did he emigrate? is he to find at Ellisisland?

Assuming this was the Austro-HUngarian Empire, Shtetlseeker throws up Dobrushina in Ukraine as being Chotay at that time, and Gataia in Romania and Gattaja in Hungary. These could be possibles but as Zlatica says, a bit more information might help - what documents etc. do you have? The name is Germanic but that would not prove he did not live in these places.

do you have realatives with the first name richard and judith, who are between 70 and 80 years old and came to usa after 1945 ( to ohio )
