I'm planning a trip to Arkansas to check the burial of:

William Paris Allen; b: 11 Sept 1883 d: 15 Sept 1905; said to be buried near Mulberry, AR

Viola Allen; b: 25 Aug 1882; died in early childhood same year; said to be buried near Mulberry, AR

Elphonso Allen or (Alphonso ?); b: 13 Jan 1886; died in childhood; said to be buried near Mulberry, AR

I know Mulberry is in Crawford County but a check of cemeteries there came to no avail. It was suggested that I check in Franklin County. Can anyone help me?

Jack D. Allen

I have 6 cemetery books (paper bound) from Franklin County that I bought at the Franklin County Court House in Charleston. They are cemetery listings in the Altus Area, Branch Area, Pleasant View Vicinity, Cecil-Etna Area, North-Northwest & Northeast of Ozark Area, and Charleston Area. I did not find the Allen's you are looking for in any of these books. The two cemeteries listed in the Mulberry Area are: Jackson Cemetery located in the old Pleasant View Community, approximately 4 miles east of Mulberry and the Lane Cemetery in the Pleasant View Community. You can eliminate them from your search. I'm sure that there are others and they just didn't mention them being in the Mulberry area. I don't know exactly where Mulberry is but don't forget that Crawford and Franklin County also borders San Sabastian County (Ft. Smith).

I've been looking for a listing of those buried at Hight (Heigt) Cemetery in Ozark and have been unable to find it.
John Rose and his wife Sarah Thompson are buried there ...they both died in 1882. I hope to determine whether their daughter Martha D. Rose and her husband Joseph B. Ivy are also there. How could I find a list for Hight
Cemetery? Thanks for your help.

Hight Cemetery (Old Pleasant View Community) is located about 12 miles west of Ozark. Travel Hwy. 64 west about 11 1/2 miles to a county road (first on west of Pleasant View RCI Building). Travel the county road about 2 miles south. The cemetery is on the west side of the road. Please remember that this information was printed several years ago, but this will give you a general idea of where the cemetery is listed. I did not find the names that you listed in this cemetery. However, I did look at all the cemeteries listed in this book as being in the Pleasant View Community and did find the following names in the Lane Cemetery (which is close to Hight) located on the AAA. Nielsen farm. This is in the Pleasant View Community south of Hwy. 64 about 13 miles west of Ozark. Ivie, Lt. James R., b.Aug 11, 1837, d.Sept 1, 1866; Ivy, Joseph G., b.April 11, 1841, d.May 12, 1873; Ivy, Joseph G., son of J.G. and M.J., bFeb 28, 1873, d.Aug 5, 1873; Ivy, Tennessee V., b.May 8, 1847, d.Feb 26, 1873. I hope this will help you.

Jane and I are fast becomming experts on the Ivy (Ivey) of Franklin and Crawford Counties. I would like to annotate this message with WHO these people were to wit:

Ivie, Lt. James R., b.Aug 11, 1837, d.Sept 1, 1866
This was the person who married Mary C Ivey daughter of James Ivey and Lydia. I do not however know who the parents of this younger James were. Mary and James were married 12 Aug 1866 in Franklin Co. He lived less than one month more! I guess married life didn't agree with him! At any rate, Mary married again 7 years later to Thomas B Ford, as MRS Mary C Ivey in Franklin Co. Mary Ford is listed with her parents in 1880 in Ivey township. By 1900 Thomas, Mary and her aged mother Lydia Ivey had all moved to Eugene, Oregon.

Ivy, Joseph G., b.April 11, 1841, d.May 12, 1873
This is the second son of James Ivey and Lydia already mentioned above. Their eldest son William Riley Ivey died in Washington Co and I believe him to be buried at White Oak. His first wife Mary Frances Snodgrass was the dau. of old Isaac Snodgrass a pioneer in Mulberry, being there on the 1830 census. Joseph had married to Susan "Aint'ney" in Franklin and after he died, Susan remarried to Robert Bean Snodgrass, Mary's brother, and another child of Isaac. Robert and Susan moved to Eugene, Oregon where they both died and are buried in the Pioneer Cemetary there, near their shirt-tale relation, old Lydia Ivey.

Ivy, Joseph G., son of J.G. and M.J., bFeb 28, 1873, d.Aug 5, 1873
This must be an error. Joseph and Susan were married in 1868, Joseph the father died 12 May 1873.

Ivy, Tennessee V., b.May 8, 1847, d.Feb 26, 1873.
Another son of James Ivey and Lydia. Tennessee married Martha J Flowers dau of Wyatt Flowers and his wife Mary J. After Mary J died, Wyatt remarried to Martha (unknown) Harris. She had previously been married to a Mr Harris. Wyatt had seven children from the first wife and three more from the second one.

James and Lydia Ivey had the following children:

1) William Riley Ivey b 7 May 1838 Missouri d 1910 Washington Co, Arkansas 1860 Mulberry, 1870 Mulberry, 1880 Lick Mountain, Conway Co, 1900 Elm Springs, Washington Co
m1 28 Aug 1856 Franklin Co
Mary Frances Snodgrass dau of Isaac
b 11 Dec 1839 Mulberry d 29 Dec 1876 Washington Co
m2 21 May 1877 Franklin Co
Frances Jennette Wade
b 2 Mar 1843 Alabama or Tennessee
(m2 Henderson Hardin 1865)

2) Joseph G Ivey (maybe "Green") b 11 Apr 1841 Mulberry d 12 May 1873 Franklin Co bur Jackson Cemetary
1850 Mulberry, 1870 Mulberry
m1 2 Feb 1868 Franklin Co
Susan M (Proctor ?) Anthony (Mrs?)
(m2 Robert Bean Snodgrass 26 Dec 1876)
Susan moved to Eugene, Oregon by 1900

3) Mary C Ivey b 1844 d after 1900
1850 Mulberry, 1880 Ivey, 1900 Eugene, Oregon
on the 1900 she lied about her age to make her the same age as her husband who was actually five years younger...
m1 12 Aug 1866 Franklin
James R Ivey
m2 22 Jun 1873 Franklin
Thomas B Ford
Mary and Thomas moved to Eugene perhaps around 1888.

4) Tennessee V Ivey b 8 May 1847 d 26 Feb 1873
1870 Mulberry living with William McCabe
m 3 Dec 1868 Franklin
Martha J Flowers dau of Wyatt and Mary

5) James M Ivey b 1849
1850 Census
no further information

6) Sarah J Ivey b 1852 Franklin Co d after 1872
m1 14 Jan 1869 Franklin
Seborn Wilkins Powell
b abt 1848 Arkansas d after 1880
1870 Mulberry, 1880 Ivey
In 1870 they also have a girl Lucinda Moore 13 living with them.

Thanks Will and thanks June. Was going through some old files and found this letter from a descendant of Sarah Thompson, wife of John Rose, parents of Martha Rose, wife of g-grandfather Joseph B. Ivy. Figured that perhaps several members of this family are buried at Hight.... Somewhere, Will, is the missing link, that will tie up the Ivy
clan with a beautiful bow and I'll get to quit looking. thanks again folks.
