If time permits, I will do lookups for people who want me to check to see if their ancestor's name is listed in the Index to Mexican War Pension Applications transcribed by Barbara Schull Wolfe.

Sandy,
Thank you for your kind offer. Could you, when time permits, look to see, if there are any McMillan, McMullen, McMillen's listed. Know that my ggggrandfather had a pension, but think he enlisted with one or more of his brothers.
Thank you,
Linda

Sandy,
I apologize, I didn't realize how much information was available. Actually this is the first time I have found anyone with information.
His name was Donald McMillan although he shows occassionally as McMullen. He was born in Canada or Scotland, (on his pension records gives both) He died at the Soldier's Home in WI. I believe his brothers names were James, Allan Robert and Donald. I have no further info with the exception, that I believe one was with him in the Soldier's Home. He served on the USS Ohio that sailed from Charlestown MA. in 1846.
As I had said I was not aware that such a list as you have existed, if I could access it I wouldn't be such a bother.
Thanks,
Linda

Linda,

The only ones close are:
McMillan, David, NY, Wisc, 5/2/1887, C5166
McMillan, James W & Minerva, Ind, DC, 5/11/1903, C556489 (the Pension number could be a type, because most are not that long)

McMullin, James, Ind, 5/14/1888, A19380.

There were no Donalds, but two Daniels from Kansas and Arkansas.
Did you find obituaries in Wisconsin?
Good luck,
Sandy

Thank you so much for the information! While I have his pension records and those for his burial from the National cemetery there, neither the state nor county has a death certificate.
It is amazing how few records there are for the USS Ohio and it's crew. Can find all the battles, but from what I have seen the crew manifests are not available.
Thank you again,
Linda

howdy Sandy --

I was just told in a phone conversation with a distant cousin that my great great grandpa, Joseph E. Richey, 1819-1857, was listed as a Private in the Mexican War -- he was from Lawrence County, Arkansas

Thank you very much for looking this up. He would have been in his mid 20s I guess.

thanks
