From 1879 until at least 1882, Jacob Dörr and his family were residents of Preussisch Konigsdorf (now Olesno) in Kreis Marienburg, West Prussia (now Gdansk Province, North Poland). Pr. Konigsdorf is a small village 18 kilometers east-northeast of Marienburg (now Malbork). In 1820 this village had a population of 267 (133 Roman Catholics, 114 Lutherans, and 20 Mennonites). Jacob Dörr, his wife Marie, and their infant daughter, Elise (Elisabeth), arrived at the port of New York on 3 April 1886. Marie was about 7 months pregnant with their next child. They were passengers #160-162 on the _S.S. Baltic_, Geo. Burton, Master, from Liverpool and Queenstown. They were listed as citizens of Germany and had left Germany from the port of Hamburg. Jacob's occupation was listed as farmer. He and his wife and daughter traveled in the aft steerage room. Jacob carried 2 pieces of baggage and Marie carried one piece. Also on the same ship, and listed as passengers #154-159, were Marie's father and mother, Michael & Maria (Hahn) Kowalski, and her younger brothers and sisters.

Jacob Johann Dörr filed his "Declaration of Intention" to become a U.S. citizen in the Monroe County Court on 8 November 1894. His "Naturalization Petition" was filed on 13 February 1901. He stated that he emigrated to the U.S. on 4 April 1886 and arrived at the port of New York. He further stated that he was born on 9 May 1856 and was 43 years of age on his last birthday. He was by occupation a canner, and he was residing at 43 Kelly Street, Rochester, NY. His witnesses at the final hearing were James A. Fox of 269 Joseph Ave. and Gottlieb Minkau of 19 Loomis Street. The petition/certificate was granted at the final hearing on 4 March 1901. [Note: If he was born on 9 May 1856, he would have been 44 years old on his last birthday, not 43.]
