A cousin N Burr Coryell spent 20 years researching our line and was unable to connect it to the Coryells in NJ. He surmised that we were connected to Samuel because S's will mentioned (unnamed) minor children. My mother alerted him to a family Bible which he located but it does not connect beyond Michael b 1753. The Bible was printed in 1794 and purchased by Abraham Coriell. It shows:
Michael Coriell b 15 Oct 1753 m Rebakah McCarty b 28 Jul 1748 d 6 Mar 1795
Abraham Coriell b 1 Aug 1773 m 12 Dec 1793 Sarah Annis b 16 Dec 1774. Children of A S listed as
Michael Coriell b 4 Jul 1796; Elizabeth Coriell b 8 Sep 1798; Abraham Coriell b 26 Dec 1800; Daniel Coryell b 6 Jan 1803; David Coryell b 26 Feb 1805; Sarah Coryell b 14 Mar 1807; Charles Coryell b 19 Sep 1809; Rebeckah Coryell b 7 Jul 1811.

Sometime after this Abraham Sarah left NY and moved to Ontario Canada. Her sister brother-in-law were already living there.
Sarah d 16 Mar 1845 Abraham d 1 Dec 1851. They are buried in the Farewell Cemetery Oshawa ONT Canada.

Abraham's father Michael wrote a will 25 Sep 1812 and it was probated 28 Jul 1813 in Seneca Co NY. Burr was unable to locate Rebakah's or Michael's gravesites. Michael's will mentions the dower rights of his widow Jane so there must have been another marriage but Burr could not locate one. He did find a gravesite for a Jane Coryell in NY.

Michael b 1796 stayed in NY. He married 2 Mar 1820 (1)Aurelia Bosworth b 30 Sep 1801 d 19 Dec 1820, and, 7 Mar 1824 (2) Frances (Fanny) Drake b 23 Feb 1804 d 2 Dec 1887.
They had 4 children 3 of whom are listed in the Bible
Charles J b 7 Jan 1825; Abraham D b 27 Feb 1827; Francis M b 3 May 1829 d 12 Mar 1907; and Aurelia Angeline b 5 Jul 1832.

In 1839 Michael and family left NY and settled in Jennings Co IN. Michael died there 12 Jul 1865.

Some of this information is already on Pedigree charts and so I will go no further on the line.

Burr is no longer doing research. All his family group sheets and documents (6 boxes) were deposited May 1998 in the Deats Memorial Library located in the Hunterdon Co Historical Society in Flemington, NJ where they are available to researchers.

Question: the family passed down the info there is a secret in Michael's line. The people who said this are now dead. Does anyone out there know of it?

Joyce I was pleased to find your Coriell inquiry. I am working on the same line. My mother is a Coryell. Unfortunately, I cannot answer your question about a "secret". The information I have on Michael Coriell b. 15 Oct 1753 having 8 or 9 children while married to Rebakah McCarty. His 2nd wife was Janet Edgar (the Jane you mentioned). I have this 2nd marriage approx 1794, which fits the death of Rebakah. I also have Michael Coriell's father as: Samuel Coriell b. approx 1720, d. Jan 1760 at Bridgewater, Sumerset, NJ. Samuel's father as Abraham Coriell b. 1702 Piscataway, NJ.
I have many mismatches in my Coryell/Coriell line so I cannot speak from sound documentation. Perhaps the research Burr has done will help clarify some of my information. I had heard that the Coriell's were French Hueguanots. Do you have any information to substantiate this?

Coryell/Coriell Family Secret

The Mormons keep good resources for almost every family including the Coryells.

The LDS summary notes of the Coryell Bible second printing state:
"Coriell--Coryell Bible, 1793-1794 : (facsimile and enhanced pages) Coryell, N. Burr (Noble Burr), 1917-. Coryell
Michael Coriell (b.1753) married Rebakah McCarty (1748-1795), and lived in Ovid, New York. After Rebakah's death, Michael married Jane, possibly a second cousin Jane (Coriell) Boice, widow of Cornelius Boice, born in Randolphville, New Jersey; Michael and Jane had no offspring. Includes descendants and relatives to 1971 living in New York, Indiana, Georgia, California and elsewhere. Some descendants immigrated to Ontario and elsewhere in Canada.
'Second printing--Jul.1986 (with important corrections)'--p. [3]."

I would guess that Michael's second marriage to Jane Coriell Boyce is the family secret.

Can anyone tell me how reliable are N. Burr Coryell's charts on microfilm with the Mormons?

Sorry. Have nothing to substantiate the Huegenot connection except for an Abraham who registered his cows and declared himself as such. The Coryells who were in NY and migrated to IN said the family was Dutch and had been in the states for centuries. I don't think they knew for certain either. The Huegenots scattered over much of Protestant Europe before ending up here.

Hi Dorothy,
Could you tell me if you have any listing of an Anna Carolina Coryell who married a Francis Elmer Bell in Indiana 1903-1904?
