Hi. None of the names you gave are ones
I've come across before, although the Szegda
must be related since my Szegdas came over
around 1900. When I tried to find information
about my grandmother Szegda, my response was
no record--possibly destroyed in the war.

I know there were at least three Szegda brothers
who came--Johannis, Steve and Andrew. My
grandmother was an aunt.

The other names from Ozanna are Olesko and Dutko.
My grandmother was Anastazya SZEGDA who's parents
were Johannis SZEGDA and Paraska DUTKO (DUDKO).

Because of the language problem and distances,
I haven't done much with my Penkala/Szegda
lines in a number of years, although I would
love to have more information.

Thanks so much for taking time to post a
response. JIM

I really don't have a lot of information either. My grandmother - KROL- was born in Ozanna and came to the US in 1912. The other names I have are KNIAZIEWICZ, FINIOR, SZEGDA, ZELASKO, VOLKUS, KASZYCKI, RAUSA and ZIELENIECKA. They were all from Ozanna or very close to Ozanna. Some of the information before 1870 is still available - you just have to know the language or hire someone over there. You could try the Morman library.

Sorry I wasn't much help

Thanks again. Actually, we've been to the Mormon Library in SLC many times with minimal success.

My Grandfather Penkala's mother's maiden name was Marianna KNIAZEWICZ.

Are we getting closer to a connection?

Well, the Trusz could certainly fit. My
Grandfather, Jacob Penkala married Justyna
Trusz in Bridgeport, Connecticut. She died
there in 1911. Both were from Ozanna. She
was his first wife. My grandmother, Anastazya
Szegda was his second wife.

My greatgrandfather, Szymon Pe(n)kala
married Marianna Kniaziewicz. However,
that's all I know about either of them.

I saw your post to the surnames in Ozanna. My grandmother was Katayrna Trusz who lived in Ozanna with her family, She came to the US in 1914 by herself. She lived in Derby, CT but worked at a canning factory near there which is close to Bridgeport. I have the surnames of the owners of the canning factory who paid her way over as the owners were from the same area, a relative of hers I would guess helped her get to the US as that person worked at the factory as well. Her father was Dymityr Trusz and I believe he was married once and then remarried and we believe her name was Maria Krol. I don't know if she was from Ozanna or from near by. My grandmother had several brothers and sisters who remained in Ozanna. I do have a family tree that from her father forward in time. But it seems we may have some sort of connection. My grandfather came to the US in 1912 to Bridgeport and his name was Jan Grela.
