I'm looking for decendants or relatives of Adolph Borggren who died 8 Dec 1949 in 'Worcester, Mass. I'm not related, but have come across family documents that I would like to pass along to his family.

I am researching my father's family. His grandparents Hilda and Herman E. Borggren came from Sweden to Florence Wisconsin in 1888. They had four children. Mary was born in Sweden, Herbert S., Ellen and Helmer Calvin (my grandfather) were born in wisconsin. the family named was changed from Borggren to Borgren sometime between 1910 and 1920. They later settled in Washburn Wisconsin where I believe they are buried. Please write if you can find a connection.

There is a Quinnesec in Michigan, according to my world atlas.

Judy, You are an angel sent from god!! I am very new at the geneology game. Do you know anything about Swedish names? The child Helfrid is listed as a male. Could this possibly be a female. Hilda and Herman's fouth child was originally named Charles E and was changed to Helmer Calvin at a later date. Mary M was born Feb 1887 so this must be the same child with a later name change
I will be looking in Quinnesec, Wisconsin for some sign of the Borggrens. Linda Aker

Hi Linda,

Information on the Emigrant CD is a secondary source, transcribed from original records, so errors could have happened when they emigrated (perhaps hearing a name wrong, etc.) or in modern times. It is always best to check the original records. With that parish name from the lookup, you can research the microfilmed parish records from Sweden. Order them from a Family History Center.

I believe that Helfrid is a male name. There is a female name of Helfrida and maybe, if your theory is correct, they misheard the child's name, and a baby boy and a baby girl look much the same at first glance.. Some of our ancestors had three or more given names, but there are also those with just one or two. It is possible that they emigrated using just one of those given names.

You can try to find them in Swedish American records, especially the church records. They are usually informative if they became church members. The Swenson Swedish Immigration Research Center has church records, newspapers, emigration lists of various kinds, etc. but their extensive records aren't online.

Good luck!

Judy,

Thank you so much for your posting on December 8, 2003 containing a list of names from the Emigranten CD. My cousin's grandfather, Carl Borggren - Chicago, is on there! I had some information from the 1930 census and the listing confirmed the information and gave me another reference address in Chicago.

I'm new to the genealogy hunt and have come to some brick walls in finding information on my Swedish Peterson relatives. My grandparents, David Leo and Hulda Sofia (Johanson?) Peterson are buried in Chicago in a 24 lot family plot purchased by Olof and Mathilda Larson in 1925. We (living relatives) have no idea who the Larsons are and don't know if we're related to them. I have speculated that Mathilda could have been my grandmother's sister, but we don't know that to be true so far. We really know nothing about my grandmother except that she was born in about 1876 somewhere in Sweden. She died in 1951 when I was only two years old.

Ahh...the mystery continues!

Thanks again for your posting. If you have any hints, please send them to nibby2mht@yahoo.com as I won't receive the GaleGroup Library posting.
