Marriage databases – no marriage event

Marriage databases – no marriage event

Recently did a search and found a matching “Tennessee State Marriages, 1780-2002” record for an individual. When trying to save the source it appears the source is tagged as only providing a source for name, dob and dod – no marriage information so the source doesn’t get attached to the marriage event. I was sure I had other examples of “Tennessee State Marriages, 1780-2002” sources where they did attach to the marriage event but couldn’t find an example in any of my trees.

Today I was working on something else and found a “North Carolina, Marriage Collection, 1741-2004” match for an individual and darned it doesn’t have the same problem – only difference is I have examples of “North Carolina, Marriage Collection, 1741-2004” sources where there is marriage information and the source does get attached to the marriage event.

I’m not using the new beta, has ACOM broken old add or just messed up another database?

I've also had this happen with Military events-even if I have already created "Military" in the timeline. It gets tagged as residence or name. Very frustrating. I hope I'm overlooking something and someone will reply how I can do this correctly! Thanks!

Are you using the new beta for adding information or the old method? There are a couple of threads mentioning the problems found in the new beta method.

See, for example, http://boards.ancestry.com/topics.ancestry.ancimprovements/2...

The question is, did these db's previously link to the marriage event? Do you (sage) have experience working with these specific db's?

The manner in how a transcribed record links/attaches to the event in a timeline depends on the specific database the transcribed record is from.

Military records NEVER created a "Military" fact in the timeline. The *original* review form format is extremely limited, and the *beta* is worse. Improved my foot.

There is a way to attach a citation to a specific event in the timeline, after it has been linked to the profile. There are threads on how to do this, if one can't be found, I'll dig one up and post the link.

As I said.. so yes specifically in the case of “North Carolina, Marriage Collection, 1741-2004” they did previously link to the marriage event.

"The manner in how a transcribed record links/attaches to the event in a timeline depends on the specific database the transcribed record is from."

Indeed,, and one would think a _marriage_ database would link to the Marriage timeline event (more specifically to the 0 FAM record equivalent) which is not the case for all “Tennessee State Marriages, 1780-2002” that I've tried and now for at least one “North Carolina, Marriage Collection, 1741-2004” I just tried.

"There is a way to attach a citation to a specific event in the timeline, after it has been linked to the profile."

I am aware of the technique thanks,, doing it manually attaches to only one spouse at a time and not to both like a marriage should (although the citation is exported to the 0 FAM record). In both cases (Tennessee and NC) the database index shows the individuals name, spouses name, marriage date and location. When attaching the Source Citations only have the option of attaching to Name and looking at the Citation as attached to name it shows Name, Detail: (No detail information added).

Either the database is broken or old add has been buggered along with the new beta add.

After more investigation this issue looks to be a database problem.

There are large parts of “North Carolina, Marriage Collection, 1741-2004” that do add marriage citations (name, spouse name, marriage date, place and with a good source citation).

http://search.ancestry.com/cgi-bin/sse.dll?ti=0&indiv=tr...

Then there are parts of the “North Carolina, Marriage Collection” that won’t attach. The index record contains marriage details (names, dates, places) but with “Source Citation: Data Source: FHL microfilm # ?????.” It appears the default fact is name so they will attach to name. If one does attach the marriage record to name you will find the citation detail to be empty – “Detail: (No detail information added)”.

Every record I’ve tried in the “Tennessee State Marriages, 1780-2002” database will only attach to name - citation detail empty – “Detail: (No detail information added)”.
