The Christensen family

I am trying to trace records of my Husbands Grandfather, Christen Krogh Christensen, he came to England in the early 1900's with his brother Valdemar. Christen married Emmeline Marion Tilling in 1906 london. Valdemar went on to America where, it is thought he committed suicide in the 1930's. We are trying to trace their Father [Neils} Peter Christensen, who was a farmer, his wife's name was Maren or Marion Thomasen or Thomas, it is thought that the boys had a younger sister Ellen.

CAN ANYONE HELP PLEASE..

Hi Eileen and Roger,

I looks as if this is your ancestors in the 1880 census

All persons in the household

thisted, Refs, Ydby, Dover By Ydby Sogn, , En Gaard, 173, FT-1880
Name: Age: Marital status: Occupation in household: Occupation: Birth place:
Niels Peter Christensen Krogh 42 Gift Husfader Gaardeier Vestervig Sogn Thisted Amt
Ane Katrine Pedersen 38 Gift hans Hustru her i Sognet
Else Marie Christensen 3 Ugift }deres Born Do [her i Sognet]
Christen Krogh Christensen 1 Ugift }deres Born Do [her i Sogn

The birth of Christen Krog Christensen on 9 Jul 1878 to Niels Peder Christensen and Ane Cathrine Pedersen can be found in Ydby, Refs, Thisted, opslag 40 nr 11. It seems that he changed his name to Christen Christensen Krog in 1905.

If this looks like you ancestor please let me know and I will see what else I can find.

sincerely,
Paul

Hi Paul,

What you have sent sounds good, the only worry is the Mothers name, that is different to what we thought, also I thing Valdemar would have been on that census, I think he was about two years older that Christen, would love to solve it soon, as his daughter my husbands Mum Hilda will be 100 in April, would be a lovely suprise to give to her, just a pity I cannot understand danish, I'm sure it would help a lot.

Thanks Eileen

In 1918 Valdemar registered for the draft in Fullerton, Vernon County, Louisiana (attached).

He was a chemist and listed nearest relative as Mrs. N. P. Christensen of Hornsyld, Denmark.
(This implies that he was not married, and that his father was deceased)

I can not find him in any U. S. censuses or other records.

----------------------------

Hornsyld is in Nebsager parish, Vejle County:

Niels Peter Christensen and Maren are in the attached 1911 and 1916 Nebsager censuses, and in 1916 Antonius Christensen was also in the household.

But if N. P. died before Valdemar's 1918 registration, I don't find his death in Nebsager parish.

Thanks so much everyone, who has sent information regarding the Christensens, up to now it is looking great, all the dates and names fit perfectly, I can't thank you enough, If I might be so bold, could I ask if anyone can find three boys aged between Christen 1879 and the eldest girl Emmy Dagmar 1891. we have just stumbled across a photo suposedly of the family, the names and ages fit perfectly, but there are three boys in there, whom we didn't know about, we presume they are brothers, but not sure.

Would really appreciate anything you could find on them

Thanks so much for all you help

Eileen and Roger

I found one more son: Thorvald William Christensen born 5 May 1889, baptized 23 June 1889, Aarhus Vor Frue.

But I do not find his confirmation there, or in Nebsager Vejle so they may have been in yet another location ca. 1903.

The 1911 Nebsager census listed that they arrived there in 1908.

If you have any old letters, photos, etc. that list places in Denmark, that might lead to other birth parishes.

Thanks for that, feel we are getting nearer, unfortunately we haven't letters or conneections that might help, only the photograph, it looks as if the boy you found Thorvald William is probably the youngest of the three we are looking for, he was obviously born in the same parish as the two girls, the other two boys I would say look around about 15 and thirteen years old which would put their birth years to approx. 1883/4 and 1885/6, it,s so difficult, when Hilda was born in 1913, children were meant to be seen and not heard, so she knew very little of the Danish family. Thanks for all the help.
