Looking for info on Crawley's that
originated in VA. My great-grandfather's
name was John Albert Crawley and moved to
Crockett County TN in the late 1800's. Any
info on this family would be appreciated.

I have a TON of information on the Black Crawley's from
Virginia, mostly from Halifax and Campbell counties, but
several other counties as well. I have identified the names
of the slave owners of the Halifax county Crawley's and
perhaps I can be of help. I do have several John
Crawley's in my database. Please contact me and I'll give you
what I have. Do you have approximate dates of birth/death or perhaps
a spouse for your John Crawley?
Lemme know... I'm more than happy to share.

Lisa,
I do know that John Albert Crawley
married a Johnetta Harris. She may have been
from the TN area. I am attending a Crawley
reunion on June 17 held in Alamo, TN. I hope
to get some info from the reunion. My
grandfather Rufus W. Crawley was born to
John and Johnetta in 1912. I am unsure of
birthdates of John and Johnetta. I do know
that they had 7 children total. I hope this
helps. I may have more inforamtion for you
after the reunion.
Thanks Jackie

Jackie;

I would love it if you would contact me directly... I'd like to get more information about the Crawley family reunion and perhaps have them add me to their mailing list for future events. I'm not familiar with the TN Crawley's and I'm not sure when they migrated from VA. The Crawley branch I'm researching seems to have all picked up and moved to Pennsylvania, all at once. No one seems to know why, but it was shortly after the turn of the century. Perhaps yours left around the same time?

I can be contacted at "sweetlisa@yahoo.com" and
let's compare notes. Thanks again.

Lisa, I am related to the Pa Crawley's. They usually have a reunion every so often in Bedford, Pa.
They came into Pa in 1847 from Va. My great grandfather's name was Grant Crawley who married a Pa Dutch woman with surname 'Lantz'. My dad is from the union of Raymond G Holmes and Mary Susan Crawley, one of Grant's daughters.
You could probably call someone in Bedford and get any other info you wanted. There's a whole history that goes with them. My uncle Joseph(d) one of Grant's sons, used to own the land referred to as 'Little Africa' in Bedford. That is where escaped slaves used to stay until they figured out what to do. The property may still be in the family, I don't know.
Well, distant cousin, I hope I helped a little. If you have any questions, please feel free to e-mail me.
