My great-great grandfather, Samuel Baird was supposedly born in 1801 in Nashville, TN, but I can't find anything to prove this. What I do know is that he first shows up living in Perry County, AL on the 1830 census living with a William Beard (Baird), probably aged 50-60. Samuel married Matilda Rutledge in Alabama, converted to Mormonism and moved to Quincy, IL in 1846 or so. Their child James Hyrum Baird, born 1848 in Quincy is my ancestor. Most claim Samuel's father was Alexander Baird from Monmouth County, NJ, some claim an Alexander Baird from Cumberland, Pennsylvania, but I have not seen any proof for either. I am wondering if the William Baird he lived with in Alabama may have been his father? Has anyone researched this line?

The long held belief that Alexander Baird from Monmouth Co., NJ has been disproven by DNA. DNA and paper documentation has proven that the Revolutionary War soldier, Alexander Baird of Cumberland Co. PA is his father. Alexander's father is William Baird.

As far as can be determined, the William Baird in Alabama is not related.

BTY, did you submit a DNA sample to BYU or SMGF several years ago. I have three descendants in my Baird DNA database who are descendants of Samuel and I would like to find out who they are so I can send them their results. One is the great-grandson of James Hyrum, one the great-grandson of Asa, and the third the grandson of Asa.

I was told my father-in-law's father was Samuel Baird. I can find no record of him but my father in law was Harry Frisbie Baird born in Rocky Mount Louisiana. Maybe they are the same family.
