Date problem Indiana Marriage Collection, 1800-1941
Since the admin of Ancestry Improvements saw fit to move bonedigger's post and my response from her sacred board, I am reposting both here. It would appear that the admin of this board is a little less strict regarding what is relevant and on-topic. =============================== bonedigger wrote on 29 March: "I've reported this issue before, about a year ago, but it still exists. The dates in the Indiana Marriage Collection, 1800-1941, are formatted as "month-month-year" instead of in "month-day-year" format. See my example screen shots for Jacob Fritz and Rosanna Sindlinger attached. They were married on September 3, 1872 in Owen County, IN. Instead of the date, September 3, 1872, the date appears as "Sep Mar 1872". After following the link to attach the record, the date leaves off the actual month of the marriage and shows only the day, the 3rd, which is shown as a named month, "Mar", with the year 1872."
BobNY wrote on 30 March: From the same database, see the attached purported "record." The correct marriage date is given in the "Comments," while the transposed and truncated incorrect date is given as the marriage date. In addition, the bride is listed as the "performed by" individual.

Re: Date problem Indiana Marriage Collection, 1800-1941
Thanks, Bob. I'd pretty well given up since the posts about this kept being moved or just deleted altogether. Especially after Talbo's post of another thread about a problem with a record set with a response encouraging such posts to the Improvement board, you'd kind of think the admin for that board would understand why I and others posted on "her" board about fixes needed to improve user experience and usage of their product.

As of this moment, it languishes unread and unresponded to on the moribund board to which she moved it.

Yes, I've seen that. Relegated to nowhere-land.

Re: Date problem Indiana Marriage Collection, 1800-1941
I was waiting to respond until I had more definitive answers, but will risk jumping into the fray with what will seem like platitudes.
We are aware of the problems with this collection. We recognize the importance of this collection. We are working on a plan for fixing this collection, but (and here's where you get to lambast me) we don't yet have a date by which it will be fixed.
Please continue to report PROBLEMS with the site and with collections on this board. If you are having challenges with researching a particular name or in a particular location or on a particular topic, then there are other boards more appropriate.
Thanks for your active participation on the message boards!
Regards
Jim Mosher Ancestry.com Product Management

Re: Date problem Indiana Marriage Collection, 1800-1941
Where, via the Message Boards, is it appropriate to report Problems with data collections?
Ancestry Site Comments board? Ancestry Improvements board? U.S. Records Collection? others?

Re: Date problem Indiana Marriage Collection, 1800-1941
The Ancestry Product Managers will generally keep track of message boards for their area, but all most of us check in on the Improvements or Site Comments boards. If there is a problem with the site or with our collections, either of these boards will do.
Of course, you may also choose to post problems you have found with a collection pertaining to a specific locale on the board dealing with that locale so other interested parties may learn from your experience.

Thanks.

Re: Date problem Indiana Marriage Collection, 1800-1941
Jim: thanks for the info...I have a question. If staff regularly checks the Board Improvements board and it is somewhat considered to be an "official" Ancestry board...how did a volunteer admin become the admin of this board? AND, more to the point, why is SHE permitted to MOVE messages off the board that staff may wish to respond to or take action upon before you all get to see the messages?
Thanks for any insight into how this happened...this used to be a staff adminned board and the fact that a voluteer has this board has confused many people (including me for a time and I was once on RootsWeb board staff) especially because she uses an email address of "rwadmin" which additionally adds to the confusion that she is staff when she isn't.

Re: Date problem Indiana Marriage Collection, 1800-1941
No lambasting here. Thank you for responding even if you think it somewhat platitudinous. You get an A for effort and an INC for execution.
But mostly thank you for reaffirming that PROBLEMS with the site and with collections can be posted here.

Jim wrote: ". . . most of us check in on the Improvements or Site Comments boards. It is the subject of capricious, and often, wrong-headed movement and deletions by the Admin. For example, the Indiana marriage problem was posted there TWICE and TWICE it was moved with no explanation given.

Bob: more to the point...this is precisely why I asked my question of Jim above.Let's wait for the response?

Unless you received a private message, I assume that there has been no response and the capriciousness continues.
