Jane BLACKLOCK arrived in Melbourne Aus. in 1857 along with an Isabella. No record of a male travelling with them. They gave their birthplace as Dumfries. Jane married Esau WALTERS, then came to NZ. Was Isabella a sister or mother?
Does this sound familiar to anyone?

I have found some Blacklocks in Applegarth Parish north of the City of Lockerbie in the Dryfe Water Valley of Dumfriesshire. This is a rural region lying generally between Lockerbie and Moffat some 35-40 miles to the north.

For example, John Blacklock (c1811-1884) married Janet Graham on April 06, 1834 in Applegarth Parish.

Their daughter, Jane Blacklock (1834-1862) was christened in Tundergarth Parish.

My Grahams owned the Newbigging farm near Sibbaldbie until the early 1800's at which time some Blacklocks purchased the land.

Helpful sources of information will be the OPR's and the 1851 and 1881 census records for the above mentioned parishes which can be found in any Mormon Family History Center. See the original church records for info not included in the OPR index.

My mother's bio-logical great-great-grandfather was John Blacklock, 1778-Mar.18,1849, died in Glenriddle, Dunscore, Scotland, her great grandfather was Charles McDougal Blacklock, born 5,18/1810- 2/9/1890, he was born in Dumfries, Scotland. Grandfather was Robert Browning Blacklock, born 1/1/1846 Dunfrieshire, Scotland, died 4/19/199 in Oraville, Illinois, mother was Margaret Ellen Blacklock, father was Andrew Jackson Latshaw.
Does any of these names sound familiar? Mary

Hi Mary, I'm pretty certain my Jane and sister Isabella BLACKLOCK were born in Dryfesdale to parents Ann and Alexander. I haven't pursued these ancestors for a while, but will keep in contact.

Barbara,
Thank you very much for the reply. I do have this information about Robert Browning Blacklock and Mary (Murray) they are my Mother's bio-logical Grandparents. She was given up for adoption when she was about 3 years old. I have been very lucky to have a lot of information on her Mother's side, but not a lot on her Father's side as he passed away before she was given away. Thanks again every little bit helps.
