Michael:
I have Gowen in my tree. Nancy Gowen in 1870 census of Wayne
Co., her husband was Thomas Gowen, elderly family members
had said Thomas returned to Texas as an heir to an estate
on his return he was ambushed and killed. Nancy's daughter
Hannah Elizabeth married Francis Marion Clark. Do you have
any Gowen information? I'd be happy to share what I have.

I have a Thomas and Mary Alice Gowen in my family that are buried in the Masonic Cemetery in Piedmont. They both died about the 1950's. They had a daughter Mary who was married to James Benjamin McCormick.

PMcCormick: Sorry for the delay in response. We have been
traveling nearly non-stop for the last 3 months and I am desperately trying to get caught-up on my e-mails.
As for your Thomas and Mary Alice Gowen I do not have them
in any of my notes, but I'm very curious as to who they are.
Would you happen to know who Thomas' parents were? There
were not that many Gowens in Wayne or Reynolds Co.'s.How-
ever the ones that were there were most certianly all related.
Do you happen to have a definite date of birth or death for your
Thomas? If so I could try to get a death cert. on him. Do you
have any family tradition stories? I hope we can tie them in to
the Gowens in that area. I hope someday we can learn some-
thing of Thomas husband of Nancy Reed Gowen who was pro-
bably the originator of all of the Gowens in the area. For now,
if you could provide me with alittle more info. we may be able
to learn something more about your/our Gowens'. Thank you
for the e-mail. Hope to hear more from you, Karlyn May

Dear Karlyn,
Thanks for the reply. My greatgrand mother's maiden name was Martha Jane Gowen(1876-1950). I don't have much as far as information on the Gowen or Evans lineages. The only information I have is from my grandfather's obituary. His name is shown as Alex Evans in the obituary; and the Church of Latter Day Saints website has him listed as James Alexander Evans(1873-1956) and was married to Martha Gowen. Any information would be deeply appreciated, on either one of them. To help out my grandparents Everett Roy Evans and Mildred Irene Montgomery were from Peidmont, Wayne Co., Mo. Mildred was born in Clubb, Mo., and I have a great deal of information on her family. I guessing that Alex and Martha (Gowen) Evans were residents in Piedmont or surrounding towns.

Sincerely Michael

Careful the children are not necessarily in order by birth dt. that tells you what a mess my family group sheets are in but
much of this I started in 1972 and notes and scribbles have a
way of infesting my sheets. I have been in the process the last few months organizing and cleaning up my act. Hope this
helps as I said it's just basic but I have more. I sure would ap-
preciate a copy of the obit you spoke of and would like to be
brought up on the Evans'. I don't think I have anything on them. Hope all this makes sense. We are related through both the Gowen and Clark lines. Thanks for the mail, Karlyn
