My maiden name is Ansley, my sister and I are the last one's in our family. My grandfather Lee Ansley was from Alabama or Georgia. He had three brothers John who moved to Philadelphia, Henry who moved to St. Louis, Mo. and the fourth one's location has always been unknown. Lee settled in Washington, DC, he had three sons, O'Dell, Frank and George. Lee's first wife was Bessie Crump or Bessie Gore from Alabama. Of the three son's only O'Dell had children. We are desperate to find family. I know that Henry and John had several children, I met them when they came to my grandfathers funeral in 1954. I never saw them after that time. Lee was a tailor by trade and he was very successful in obtaining real estate in the DC area. I was told that either his Father or his grandather came over on a slave ship. I believe Lee's father was a teacher. Waiting for your response.

My grandfather Lee Ansley moved to the DC area in the 30's from Georgia. He was married to Bessie Gore or Bessie Crump who died in childbirth. They had three son's, one was my father O'dell Ansley. My father was the only son that had children. My grandfather's second wife Louise Ansley was from Alabama, she died in 1996. Lee had three brothers, one was Henry Ansley who moved to St. Louis, one was John Ansley who moved to Philadelphia and the last brother was never heard from after he left Georgia. I met Henry and John at my grandfather's funeral in 1954 in DC. Henry had a wife or a daughter named Katie and he had some son's who I remeber as being very tall. My sister and I are the only two remaining DC Ansley's. It would be nice to hear from you.

Hi,

What year do you think your grandfather was born?

There was a large number of Ansleys in both the 1870 and 1880 Census records in GA - and a Henry Ansley listed in some AME church records from Ohio.

You might consider posting also to the AfriGeneas forum, since those of us who post there concentrate on helping find both the ancestors and living relatives of African Americans.

Alrhough I am a 'white' Ansley, perhaps like the descendants of Thomas Jefferson, we are all related. Below is a link that takes us back to 1066 and the origin of the name. I would be very interested to learn more about your line since, I too, came from Georgia. Looking forward to hearing from you.

Sincerely,
Patricia Anne Ansley
