Am trying to figure out the line of John Chittum/chittim born c. 1770 NC. Am wondering if you have anything that ties the NC group to the MD and or VA groups.

I find JOHN CHITTEM in Prince Georges, Maryland b c. 1825 m. Anne c. 1850

There seems to be an earlier JOHN CHITTIM who shows up down in Randolph, North Carolina marrying Susan STALEY 6 Sep 1823.
Is there a connection? Are any descendants out there researching them that can shed light on my confusion?

I find listing of JOHN CHITTUM in Rockbridge, Virginia by 1838. There are several of them with different middle initials. Does anyone know if any of them had a sibling or child named Jethro. Jethro probably had a brother named Thomas. The family is in Sumter SC before 1810-1820.

I know that Jethro Chatham/Chittom/Chittum /Chattom/ eventually Chatham was the son of John Chittom or Chittum. We suspect he is the son of JANE REESE, probably the daughter of a MARY JAMES AND WILLIAM REESE. Jethro was born in Sumter SC c. 1822. We have census data that tracks Jethro and his offspring from 1820. In fact, a Thomas Chittum was in Sumpter SC by 1810 and is probably his uncle. Don't have anything to substantiate this. Do you have anything in your research on the 1600/1700 and early 1800 branches of the Chittum's that would tie in REESES, or JAMES. Any help is welcome.

My grgrgrandparents Frances[Franky] Chittum & Elias Wood were married in Rockbridge Co. VA about 1825. Do you know anything of their ancestry? They went to Henry Co. IN and had about 8 children, the oldest was Absalom and a younger one was my grgrandmother ,Eliza Jane, who married John Anderson. Wm. H. Griffy

I have her parents and brothers and sisters. According to everthing I have, Franky and her husband Elias Wood just disappeared sometime before her father died because she (and a brother hezekiah) were not named in father John's will which was written in 1827 and probated in 1834. So I guess they moved to Henry Co., In. in that period of time. I would love to exchange info with you.

Elias Wood was stationed at Lexington, VA army base. He & Frances Chittum went to Henry Co., IN, had Absalom, Hannah, James, Eliza Jane {my grgrandmother b.1830}, Rachel Ann & John. They left Indiana for Illinois, where Absalom went into the Civil War. Their descendents live in Clay Co., KS & the Oklahoma City area. I think this Wood family was from Fauquier Co. VA. Do you have the ancestry of Elias & Frances? I am a retired salesman, b in Anderson, IN in l924. Have 3 sons & a dtr. living, plus 3 grandchildren. My Griffys & Dipboyes are from Shen. Co., VA. We have been there several times doing research. I recall the name Chittum about 1995 when the babies were mixed up at the hospital and then one set of parents were killed. I have a lot more to share.
