Hi, i'm related to jacob eichholtz from the Pa. area, he was a noted painter, 1776-1842, his second wife was catharine trissler, from columbia ,Pa. Jacob's father was leonard eichholtz from Bulls head, lancastor, married to a catharine mayer.. the spelling for Eichholtz has two h's not one. jacob's mother was anna maria, the second wife of david miller, sheriff of lancaster Co, she was born in 1854.Any help would be greatly appreciated...i know that there was at one time an Eichholtz Room at the Lancaster Historical Society, that held his paintings. I would love to meet someone from that side of my family...

The j. Eichholtz that i am related to was a very famous painter from the lancaster Pa. area, he was born in 1776 and died there in 1842...his father was leonard eichholtz...jacob was married twice, he married a widow the first time with 2 children, then had 2 more...she died and he remarried and had 9 more children...my family history book is in phx. ariz. now so i don't have access to know about the Shaffners... jacob was first a tinsman then went to painting, and is very well known in the pennsylvania area, even today.. don't know if they are one in the same...what info do you have...connie

one of the books is called jacob eichholtz, by rebecca beal...it tells the story of his life, but shows all of his paintings...most of the personal stuff that i have has been passed down by my family relatives of years ago...my grandmother and great grandfather were painters, and my grandmother is from the eichholtz line.... as i said before that a lot of my paperwork is on it's way to phx. ariz. for a month or two, but what is it that you want to know...what questions do you have...since i only have the info on the eichholtz and haven't researched anyone branching of off them, i'm not familiar with the other names you mentioned...i have pictures done by them, also self portraits...can you tell me how jacob, or leanord fit into your family. he painted a picture of james buchanan when he was a gov. before his presidency and it is now at the smithsonian inst.. was on loan at the white house in the 70's i think... my sister has one of his paintings of his son,it is dated 1815...at one time the lancaster historical society had a whole section set aside called the eichholtz room and it had his paintings. they belong to my family..they are still there, but we have not retrieved them...hope this fills in some places, but please feel free to ask any questions or write me personally and i can give you my number if you want to call....connie

well this is interesting,,i went looking thru jacob e. ledger of his paintings done from 1819-1841 and there is a Hall, Chas with something next to it that looks like Deed or Decd(possible deceased?) then widow 1836. this is the actual ledger he used to keep tract of all of his paintings..it is mentioned in one of the history books...i also found a 1912 edition of Jacob Eichholtz, "some loose leaves" from the ledger of an early lancaster artist..delivered at the opening of an exposition in lancaster,, it is a revised catalog of Eichholtz's works....there were lots of names and dates in there and tonight after church i will read thru it to see... later, i will give you the page numbers of our similar books and show you my relatives and who they are, so you will know how i fit in...i am unsure of one thing with you,,,i understand that mr.s charles hall is related to you, but is she a relative of eichholtz or just someone he painted...i am so tired after putting together our immediate family history that pieces are all running together...i have a light day tomorrow and will try and write with new info.. i notice that the page says 1816, canvas, yet the ledger says 1836, possible this is another painting he went to do and she died, the ledger starts in 1819 so there is one prior to this...have you tried to contact any of the names of the owners of the painting , the book i think is from the mid 60's, but you might be able to tag them down...talk with you later,,this is interesting...connie

Is this ledger xeroxable? I would love to have a copy of the page you referenced.I will try to give you the genealogy of Jacob Eicholtz to Mrs. Hall
Jacob Eicholtz m. Mary Schaffner
Mary's father was Johannes Casper Schaffner
Mary's sister was Anna m. Godlieb Nauman
Godlieb's son was George and his son Was David. David was married to Ann Rogers and they had a daughter Ann. Ann m David Erisman and they had a son Charles LeRoy Erisman, my Great Grandfather. To complicate is more, George Nauman, the son of Godlieb was married to Salome Hall who was the daughter of Charles Hall and Marie Salomea LeRoy(my Gr Grandfather's middle name). Charles Hall marie Salomea had a daughter, Ann Maria who married Caspter Schaffner III son of John Caspar, Mary's (wife of Jacob Eicholtz) brother, who ws the son of Johannes Caspar Schaffner.
If you are interested in this, I have dates etc. I have gotten in the DAR on Godlieb and Charles Hall
I have not tried to contact anyone since the book was so old.
I would like any info that you have with substantiated evidence for proof on any of Jacob's children
thanks,
Judy
