Hi, I am researching my Great Grandfather who jumped ship in Adelaide, Australia in 1889. I have traced his father to George Haldane born in Middlesex whose father was Peter Haldane also born in Middlesex according to the 1851 census. If anyone has any information regarding the Haldane ancestry of these it would be greatly appreciated.

Regards

Steve Haldane

Hi Steve,
I can confirm what Ray has told you. Peter and Elizabeth had 4 children, Thomas, George, Harry & William. After the death of Peter in 1855 Elizabeth went to live with her Father John Yockins in Acton and took Harry & William. Harry went to India and married an Eliabeth ?. They had 3 boys there Ernest Yokins Haldane, Edward Yokins Haldane and Charles. They returned to England about 1890 and had Herbert.

Edward Yokins Haldane was my great uncle and I have some of his war medals and a silver snuff box presented to Mr Yokins, presumably his great grandfathers.

I too am a descendant of Peter Haldane! I see you have had some replies. Peter Haldane (1813)/Elizabeth Jane Yockins(abt 1808) were one of my Great Great maternal Grandparents. Peter's father
also Peter (b 1792 Alloa Scotland) m Rosanna Burkin Young in 1812 at St James Westminster. Peter (1792) was the son of Peter Haldane (b 1755) and Janet Douglass (1756) they m at Alloa in 1780 and had 7 or more children. l believe Peter (1755) was the son of John Haldane and Helen Cowie. Hope this helps.

I am a 2nd great grandchild of Peter Haldane and Elizabeth Yockins. Please see my tree (giantloptree).

I'd be really please to hear from any of the younger ones - especially descendants of his grandchildren - James Thomas Carens Haldane; Bessie Lucy Haldabe (m. Baker) and Harry William Haldane. My grandfather was the other brother - Peter.

HI Roger

The Elizabeth that Harry William Haldane married was from Coggeshall in Essex (I haven't found her name yet)

All the posts refer to Peter Haldane of Middlesex. They settled in Westminster by about the 1840s. Some (George Carens Haldane) went all over the place. Harry William was running the The Crown pub in Hayes High St in 1901. William Yockins Haldane and his mother (Ellizabeth Jane) dies in Brentford Union Workhouse.

My gt grandfather - Thomas Peter John - settled in Paddington mainly. He hung himself on 24 Aug 1893 - 6 months after my grandfather was born.

Anyone wanting to view my tree can do so - gaintloptree.

Any info would be well received.

Carol

Hi Carol,

Yet another descendant of Peter Haldane and Elizabeth Yockins here! My great grandfather was James T.C Haldane (born 8 Feb 1865) who I think was Thomas' oldest son.
You have mentioned your family tree - I would love to see this but can you tell me how I find it, I am new to Rootsweb and I cannot trace it in the family tree section.
My grandmother told us she had many brothers and sisters of different ages some already grown-up when she was little. She mentioned Peter, Harry and Fred were all older brothers but I have not found these mentioned in the census at all. When Thomas died though in 1893 his two youngest children, Harry and Peter would only have been 12 and 10 years old. I wondered if maybe they had been taken in by their older brother James T.C.? Did your grandfather ever talk of his early days? In one of your emails you said your grandfather Peter was only six months old when his father Thomas died, is that correct? I had Peter as born in 1883.
Have you managed to trace Thomas Peter John Haldane in the 1861 census at all? I cannot find him, I wondered if he was aboard ship somewhere as the newspaper report of his death mentioned he had formerly been a sailor.
Look forward to hearing from you. How amazing to find that several other Haldane descendants of Peter & Elizabeth Yockins should all appear on Rootsweb!

Chris

Hi Chris,

You will find Harry in the 1891 and 1901 censuses in Hanwell and Hayes. You will not find hime earlier as he was in India where all but his youngest son was born. I assume he was a soldier as one of his sons was born ina regimaental hospital in Bengal.
