Looking for a Penberthy born in Cornwall, probably named William or Stephen, who emigrated to Australia and worked on the Sydney Bridge construction as an engineer of some kind, and died inspecting it. He ties into my family but I cannot find out anything about him. His sibs were born in the 1850s but he could have been born later. There can't have been too many Penberthys in Sydney at the time. Help would be much appreciated.
Thanks.
Update: He was working on a different construction project when he died--the Sydney Bridge story was incorrect (handed down in the family). I've found his obit.

Sorry, I have only just checked messages. My Penberthys married into the Kirkpatrick family, who have a website with lots of info on Penberthys as well. Try to google "Australian Kirkpatricks". Basically they were from Cornwall/Devon border near Horrabridge and came out to Elsmore in New England district for the tin. They were all metallurgists or the equivalent, some went to mining areas in Vic and S.A. , also in Mexico where there are still Penberthys 150 years later but they are named Pablo etc !

My direct email address is eelah.park@bigpond.com if you need to contact me direct. Good hunting, Liz

Hi - I just came across your post and here's hoping you are still around after 5 years or so. My great great grandfather was John Penberthy who was born in Plymouth Devon around 1829. His father John born about 1801 was a shoe maker and John junior was a sail maker who immigrated to Sydney in the 1850's. John married Harriett Cooper in Sydney - they both lived in the old area known as Brickfield Hill and they lived in the inner suburbs afterwards - Redfern, Chippendale and finally in Glebe. I can't see a William or a Stephen. From what I can gather Penberthy was a very common name. I would love to hear if you have any info about my line.
regards
Ellen

I'm sure the family is related somehow, but I do not have any info on that branch.

Thank you. I'm aware of this family and the dates are similar, but it is not the same person. Probably a relative. I did find the death information on the person I was looking for. He died fairly young in a construction accident in Australia, and I don't believe he had a spouse or children. I found the information in an online newspaper. So-mystery solved to some extent.
